I mean with all that money they got :\

Yet I can't even digitally purchase and download WotLK........... whats up with that?

With any SOE game I can just use the launcher and purchase everything I need right there and then.

Bandwidth is expansive, plus I dont think there is a server been built that can serve millions of downloads at the same time and give a good speed.

SOE's player base is tiny in comparision so hosting files wont be a problem.

Although I think they should host old patches for direct download.  But theres loads of other places for that so I guess they dont have to.

You know...I've always wondered about that too, honestly, since I have accounts with both companies.  I do LIKE the way SoE does their game downloads and monthly billing and having all the options in one program, it's VERY convienient.  But I suspect the second poster may have a point.  I'm not  tech savvy enough to presume what it might actually take to facilitate up to a potential 11 million downloads of such huge files, many all at the same time, even if spread out over the course of a few days.  It SOUNDS daunting, but what do I know?  lol

I certainly agree with you though.  SoE's way of doing it is so convienient for me.  I've never had to wait in line, trek out in the snow at midnight, or even mess with Amazon or the postal service, and I give them mad props for THAT.

THE ABOVE POST IS MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION. Duh.
Now Playing: WoW, EQ2, EVE. Presently in closed beta for two upcoming MMOs, really looking forward to The Agency, Runes of Magic, Aion and TCoS releases. Still debating a return to Vanguard. I also play FPS games, such as Unreal 3 and Painkiller, and some single player games like Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. I'm addicted.

Also SOE's customer service always responds to me within 30 mins of any petition I make in game and within 24 hours of any ticket I make on the website, I can even use the live technical support to get help straight away. However with Blizzard it took them 2 weeks to respond to me and if I ever need help in game it usually takes them between 2 days to a week. I don't understand why people say SOE have crap customer service when it's the best I've ever come across. CCP for example have taken over a month to investigate a problem I have :\

Just a shame SOE don't take that kinda care with their games.

I can download WOW and TBC via torrents or even from their site but I can't buy a cd key from it :\ I don't understand that at all....... I don't want a Box and I don't give a crap about having to download whenever I want to install, I don't even mind paying full price just for a CD KEY.

I would buy the expansion online if I could just to try it out but I'm not going to spend 30 mins driving to the nearest store that sells it and go out of my way to buy it.

Bandwith? Totally wrong.

Blizzard makes agreements with the retailers (Bestbuy, GameStop etc.) to sell WoW/Xpacs. If they let people download stuff, their agreements with retailers will suffer. The retailers will not be willing to promote WoW after that.

That is the only reason WoW can not be downloaded.

The problem is that SOE screwed up with SWG with the NGE update. Years later people still hate SOE for that and bash SOE on every post they can make.

I hated SOE for the NGE too. Otherwise SWG would still be the best MMO out there and I would still play it.

But yet I am still objective and have no eternal grudge against them. Seriously, those people need to get a grip on themselves and move on for a change!

SOE customer service is the best there is and with Codemasters in EU I had a very good experience as well.

EverQuest II is still going strong and I enjoy it still to this day with the guild.

I was suprised too, when I played WoW for over 2 years that they had such crappy Customer Service. They make billions a year and yet they suck royally in providing decent Customer Support.

Cheers

My guess is Blizzard has a deal with retailing.

Lots of business for both and I guess they will offer digital download later on.

I am an SOE hater, and I NEVER played SWG! They are the worst company for supporting the minor number of raider scum (all they serve is raider scum) and can't balance classes worth a damn is the major reason for my hate toward them. Putting all the best items for raiders only or in an easily forever camped spawn is enough reason to hate SOE.

There are too many free alternatives that offer more than meaningless and endless level grinds to make EQ relevant anymore. Plus, the new breed of MMO like WoW and Warhammer Age of Reckoning remove any value left in the antiquated EQ model.

Make it free permanently or close up shop. EQ just isn't worth paying for.
