"Dreams flow across the heartland, feeding on the fires" - N. Peart

So looks like FFXI is getting yet another activity for interested players to partake in..

Moblin Mazes

All the specifics haven't been released yet, so far as I can tell, but from the looks of it, players will be able to pay a sum of gil to receive a blank 'tabula', which seems like it would be basically a blueprint.

On it, you can map out your own custom dungeon design - perhaps complete with creature encounters and such.

Other players can then pay a sum to enter your dungeon (or others') with their party to try and complete it.

Again.. that's what I'm getting from it and I'm sure there will be some twists to it (in true SE fashion).

In all though, it sounds *very* interesting. The game design geek in me is definitely eager to check it out.

More Info Here

Should be interesting!

Only one thing creates peace and that''s me "The Hitman".

Sounds exciting like .hack//Sign (tv show) when the developers made dungeons on the fly and had players compete in them.

I'll resubscribe just to try it out.

Ya Square are quite the innovators on ideas in there game. The problem for myself is that i just can't get the fervor to play this game again and i still have several accounts paid for lol. That is the price a game pays for being a large timer sink,it causes burn out.I will probably cancel my subs before the end of this month, that way i won't even think about it anymore.

I wish Square would just give it up and bring out a modernized, sparkly new version of the same type of game.

They are using up so many unique ideas, there will be nothing left for them to implement in a new game.

I guess they are making so much money off  this game still,it wouldn't be economical to build a new game since the cost would offset there profit for several years.Funny game ,i do miss it but at the same time i only miss it because there is not one good game out there right now to make me walk away for good.

You know, I think it depends on how you approach the game. To me, I see FFXI more as an online world with a variety of different things I can choose to do... be it for fun, profit or to otherwise improve my character. How long it takes never has been an issue for me, I think, because I never set time frames. I just play the game and do whatever I feel like doing.

In all, when I start to "burn out" on what I'm doing (be it leveling, etc), there's always numerous other things I can do instead.

Another way to put it is I kinda see FFXI as a series of mini-games and activities - or "stuff to do" as I refer to it - set amidst a world with deep lore and a lot of very interesting stories unfolding.

But that's me, of course :)

I wish Square would just give it up and bring out a modernized, sparkly new version of the same type of game.

Well, they are working on a new MMO, but there's no word on if it'll be anything to do with FF. Who knows, though.

They are using up so many unique ideas, there will be nothing left for them to implement in a new game.

Nahhh... I don't think you need to worry about that. After so many different FF titles, alone.. not to mention all their other series, I don't think it's possible for SE to run out of interesting ideas. Or, if nothing else, they'll implement a similar idea with a different twist.

I guess they are making so much money off  this game still,it wouldn't be economical to build a new game since the cost would offset there profit for several years.

Yeah, 500k players @ $13 a month (or equivalent), minimum, is nothing to sneeze at and I'm sure they know it heheh.

Funny game ,i do miss it but at the same time i only miss it because there is not one good game out there right now to make me walk away for good.

I've tried to quit FFXI several times. I even deleted my original character to make it "final".  It didn't last. 4 months later I was starting all over from scratch.

There is nothing else out there quite like FFXI.

Anywho ... what exactly is this moblin thing? I have had trouble understanding what it is. Is it like they are making a section of the game like Chocobo's Dungeon?

lol... Touche' :)

When I'd made the decision to come back, I felt like an idiot for having deleted my original character. It was some consolation to know I wasn't the only one to have done that.

All in all, my new character (Shanree 2.0 as I call her :-p) is way farther along than the first one... so it's all good.

Not sure entirely. You know SE.. they give out a few tidbits and leave the rest for later. So far as I can tell, it's a way for players to create their own custom dungeons that other players can then enter and attempt to complete.

I tell myself the same things all the time, but I keep coming back even after "burning out". There is no shame in cancelling your account when you're not playing FFXI - saves you money, and I'm sure you've already spent a lot on FFXI!

My hunch is that you'll get what you're wishing for in Square's next MMORPG being a new version of a similar type of game. I think the unique ideas applied to FFXI will be improved when implemented in the next online title.

Because Square already mentioned "Rapture", I don't think that they're worrying about offsetting profit for several years. I agree that it's impressive seeing FFXI do well after so many years while a lineup of newer titles are closing down.

If you''re going to be crazy, you have to get paid for it or else you''re going to be locked up.

It seems cool i guess, I wish SE would just do a graphics upgrade, I have done the registry tweaks and all that and while it dosen't look horrible it could look better.  I know graphics arn't everything but believe it or not eyecandy does make a game even better for some of us. This game already has great gameplay why not put some better graphics to it.

They probobly won't do it anyways, I guess I'll have to play their new MMO for better graphics. But I havent heard any word on that in a while.

Playing Guild Wars. Waiting for Fallen Earth and SE new MMO.
