Ouch is it true ?Appears to be ...funny for a game that is a 10/10 for some and is seeing this "massive revival " ?

Is this a portent for the eventual demise of AOC ?

Note that it says US staff. The US office was as far as I know marketing and customer service primarily.

All development has been done in Oslo, Norway. This office is not affected at all.

I'm not surprised, AoC is not doing so well in US.

It probably have something to do with that WAR is doing good in US and lousy in EU, AoC is the other way around.

But customers services and quality personal in US isn't affecting the game in itself so much. They do have lost 70% of their US customers so it is natural to fire that much people then.

It is harsh times right now everywhere (well, not at Blizzard of course) so it was the right decision to make.

Funcom had customer service staff?

It really won't change much, US staff did nothing anyway and they're not financially viable to keep there as Funcom is running out of available funds.

lol

That is funny ...but I do admire Avery for his unwavering support of AOC

I have to say ,I don't hate Funcom and want to see it fail like I use to...I have got over that animosity. To me this is like  theater .After all the opinions about the state of the game I want to see if the company can survive. It's a good case study to how a modern MMO mustn't release in an unfinished state :)

They only laid off 70% of staff, not all of them. Avery said on the other thread that they were laid off because there are of less petitions ingame. I think that is a funny theory. You don't lay off 70% of staff because of less petitions

Can't say I'm surprised about the layoffs. It was bound to happen. When companies are in financial trouble, first thing to save money they lay off staff. Some random forum guy said they laid off about 60 people both in US and in Norway but like I said he was just some random guy so he might be talking bs.

EDIT: In other news: Hairy Riding Beasts have been added to testlive so it's not all bad news!

even if it is true so what. The staff was minimal at best and doesn't have anything to do with the development of the game for the most part since FC uses more people in their home office than in their subsidiaries.

Now, if they quit using Two Pi Team then AoC player should start to worry. In case you don't know Two Pi Team is the company FC uses to do Q&A for their European forums. Since July, they've collected data, post, suggestion, from all the countries the game is played in (which means 4 different languages). If they stop doing using Two Pi Team, then AoC may be shut down since that would indicate that FC no longer cares about input.
