One elevator ride to hell, going down!

O'wise one, the Devs have heard your plea. Of course they just released destroyers, battle cruisers and mining barges, but this is direct from the Dev Blog:

new ship classes planned for this year
reported by Oveur | 2005.01.07 11:12:04
There has been lots of talk on the forums regarding new ships and I was asked to post a blog by Arud regarding those entirely brand spanking new ship classes which are in the pipeline for this year, so I figured I'd throw together a shortlist for you. I won't go into details on any of them nor when they will be available - only that they are planned for this year - and that means planned, not promised ;)

Freighter
These are the new ultra-haul class of ships in EVE, with 100K M3+ specialized cargo holds. They are howerver only station to station and of course veeery slow. Make that veeeeeeeery slow.

Dreadnought
BFS which uses X-Large turrets and is intended for an Anti-Battleship and Anti-Station/Starbase role. It will most likely feature Jumpdrive propulsion as most of the huge size ships.

Carrier
Another BFS, which is planned to use X-Large drones, be in a fleet combat support role and it's special abilities be of the support and drone class. Will also most likely feature Jumpdrive propulsion.

TitanYes, you read right. T-I-T-A-N. Titan. I'm wetting my pants just writing it. Wait while I do the happy Titan dance ... there. Planned to be as close to a mobile station as can be, it's bigger than huge and will feature the Jumpdrive propulsion. It's _not_ the most uber combat ship ever. If you are looking for combat abilities, you should check out the Dreadnought.

In addition to the new ship classes, we will of course continue to release the specialized Tech Level 2 ships.

ooo that freighter sounds great... think of the trade oppertunities with over 1,000,000 meters cubed of cargo space!

actualy, the freighters are supose to have about 125,000 to 150,000 in cargo, not that crazy but still alot better than anything transport ships and haulers can handle at the moment. As for the other BFS, hopefuly the requirements won't be what they are on the test server lol.

i.e. (Battleship 5, Staceship Command 5, Advanced Spaceship Command 4, Jump Drive Operation 1).

Would really blow if all the dreadnaughts require you to have a BS skill to level 5, although, would make getting that skill alot more useful than it is now. As for Adv. SSC, it isn't even in the game yet, and hopefuly will not be a rank 8 skill or something.

"HA! this isn''t even a freakin quote! does my rebelliousness turn you on?"

to be honest i hope they have those types of skill requirements (and, no i'm not even anywhere close to having them myself). It would really piss me off if so many people had one. This thing can take out Battleships in one volley (less even) and is just too powerful for every other person to have.

Make of it what you will.

Dreadnaughts do not take out battleships in a single-volley. Yes, they can hold their own against 3 or 4 battleships but, they are not invincible. And not everyone will be flying them since they more than likely will be costing in the neighborhood of $1B ISK a piece.

Add the fact that they can't really defend themselves from smaller ships and the lack of setups available on them (they only have about 3 or 4 weapon slots each) and you will probably only see them being used for major 0.0 station involved conflicts. If that isn't enough, jump drives are suposed to take up megacyte and zydrine each time you jump so, really doubt people are going to be cruising around in them when they are out.

On the flip side, I think they will be a great addition since they will probably limit the ammount of corps that use cheap friggin' sniper BS's with warp core stab setups to kill frigates from 100+ km away. Having one or two flying around in a gang will make people think twice about taking cheap shots and will add even further to the abundant list of strategies you can employ in combat.

All there is left to do is wait for them to be released along with the missile overhaul and POS sovereignty bonuses. ::::28::

Oups, I guess I mispoke in an earlier post. Freighters ARE supose to have 1,000,000 in cubic meter cargo, awesome, will finaly be able to make 0.0 a livable place.

While I'm at it, anyone else read the lastest news from the devs, ::::06:: I thought they were only planning a few things, this is just awesome, go CCP ::::08::

You can do it!

Mega And Zyd just to use the jump drive. Meh not too bad when you consider the hye everyone gang up on me bulseye you will wear when flying one. Wait until your fleet reaches an enemy station, jump in help take it and jump out. Better than loosing several 100millions worth of ship.

What I do not like about the upcomming changes is how the infinate run bpo's are now getting a finite number. What about all the corps that saved up and bought a bs bpo for 1 billion?
