ok, i updated my drivers to the new nvidia 77.72 version a few days ago, and now i cant play any video files. every time i try to start one up it opens the player and locks up, it doesnt even start it or anything. i have to reboot my comp to get out of it, there is no error message or anything it just freezes everything. if anyone knows what the problem is or how i can fix it, it would be appreciated. i already tried downloading the divx codecs and stuff, i dont know why its doing this they worked fine before i updated the drivers.

Have you attempted to install the previous drivers again?

I am going to go out on a limb. Were the drivers you just installed the beta drivers that game with BFII?

EDIT: ok seems like that was the problem, i deleted the new drivers (77.72) and reinstalled the old ones (71.89) and now the video is playing fine. nice bug they got there, i was trying to watch the auto-assault gameplay movies. i guess this can be a warning to anyone else, if you like your media files dont upgrade to version 77.72, lol.

For future reference, A really nice page for drivers (both ATi, Nvidia, Nforce... almost any) is http://www.guru3d.com/. It also has overclocking utilities, becnhmarks and a host of other things.

all that did was link me to the nvidia forceware drivers at nvidia.com...that is what i was having trouble with in the first place. *sigh* i already fixed it anyways, so that was unnecessary.

Common sense is no longer common.

He said "for the future" just so you could have it handy at a later date. As for me I would suggest www.tweaksrus.com for Nvidia drivers. I've had TONS of problem with Nvidia drivers, but that was with my laptop.s Extreme G ( which you can find on the tweaksrus homepage ) puts out GREAT Nvidia drivers. However, last I checked they were only up to 77.62 ( which is what I am currently using without a single issue ).

I've heard a lot of talk that 77.72 has a codec conflict issue, which is probably what you experienced.

"What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."
