If you guys really want to get some good opinions/ things done on the site- you should put a Woman on the mmorpg.com staff. -Nothin' like a woman to get non-stop opinions. Get out of your chauvenistic ways you mmorpg.com guys!!! Get a chick on the staff!

Hahaha..I don't think they don't have one because of sexism :P Even though the game world has expanded rapidly to females over the last few years there still is a huge ratio of men to women in the gaming world. Even on my game we have around 800 people signed up and maybe 15 are female (thats not even an exagerration either :O) most "females" on mmorpgs are just guys the daedalus project pretty much proved that :P nothing like a woman for non stop opinions rofl...=P _______________________________ |

You can do it! |
Wasnt there a study one time that said more women play half life than men? I bet there are more women out there than you think, they just don't feel the need to advertise the way that men do. If I was a woman I would have a male avatar in order to be able to play without being hit on all the time.

I'm a member but not on the staff. I do have lots of opinions on things I just love to blab about though. Though guys still outnumber us in many catagories alot of it comes down to the types of games your looking at. I just read that there are more female gamers age 17 to 28 then there are male. The thing is many of us play more things like online card games and such rather then roleplaying games or halflife. I think Everquest has been one of the biggest things for getting more of us to play roleplay games. Supposedly durring peak hours EQ has about 2000 people on per server and about 200 of those are female. The social aspects of mmorpgs are making this type of gaming a lot more attractive then it has been in the past which is a good thing. That and the fact that if we ever want to see our boyfriends, husbands, and brothers these days, we may just have to join a Dragon raid to do it. |

Squee I'm basing the ratio on what I've seen on my game along with reasearch done by game magazines and The daedalus project ( http://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/) Half life is ONE game. As for gender bending in games its been proven that men play female characters more of the time than females play male characters. I was quite shocked myself that there still aren't that many female gamers in comparison to men but I've done my on reasearch and looked at others work..and its true. I've seen the numbers ...there are a lot less women out there than I thought :P Yes you could say maybe the women don't do the surveys or don't advertise it but the ratio is still substiantial even when you're only looking at 800-1000 people in real life and online studies.
Edit :Oops Misti replied right after I went to type something :P Misti I've read that more women get into gaming after they are married especially if they stay at home where did you read that ? (I like as much information on MMORPG research as I can possibly get ^_^ ). If I didnt like working so much thats probably what I would do with my time :P and yes EQ had a HUGE effect on female gamers playing..the game I'm making I'm hoping to get an equal balance of males and females playing by making it more attractive to get females to play too. Most girls ..well atleast I and many girls I know like dark games..I like bright and colorful games (and EQ is fairly colorful in my opinion) a dark enviroment just puts me in a bad mood :P No one gets why I like korean games so much even when I can't understand all of them..its the COLORS :D ______________________________ |

Ok....My main point of this thread was that we needed a Female perspective on the STAFF. It's true that more men play mmorpgs than women, but that's not what I was trying to focus on here. As you can see in the above posts- chicks tend to give a more indepth explaination of their viewpoints, including facts & articles to support their point. I'm not saying no guy does this, but most would simply say "I'm right ...you're wrong...naaah "A good man knows his limits, a Great man knows he has none...." |
