Absolutely terrible, after the shock of it I just couldn’t stop watching it and laughing, 8 years of development for this?

After all those endless arguments with the supporters and their hype about how incredible and revolutionary Darkfall would be ,not to mention the developers, and this is it, farcical.

No need to say anymore, looks like this has been a rude awaking for some judging by the responses on the official board.

If Darkfall does start open beta or launch next month which I very much doubt it will, prepare to be even more disappointed.

Remember, this 1 min heavily edited clip represents the best they could or would show 1 month from launch, everything else is probably even worse, still in "internal beta testing" stage or just non existent.

Quite possibly the worst pre launch beta gameplay preview video ever, lets hope the game is at least a little better.

Exactly.

Same thing happened in 2003, they announced they had found a publisher and that beta would start soon, and they had plans to launch within the year, sounds familiar.

I apologise If you got the impression I was arguing, I was just talking about the information you had found, I agree in retrospect my post is a bit confrontational.

I also sent emails to GNi and AVE with similar questions but I never got reply’s , perhaps you could work your magic and try AVE next?

Khameleon I was not saying or implying Aventurine lied to anybody (this time), please don’t start putting words in my mouth.

Remember Aventurine must of told AVE that they are aiming for a 2008 also, because AVE repeated it in their press release, it does not necessarily mean it will happen either.

I appreciate you took the time to find this information out but it could simply be that weeks ago when Aventurine and GNi agreed to work together, Aventurine told GNi they where aiming for a 2008 launch and have said nothing more to them since.

And this VP is just going on what his company was last told weeks ago, or on the other hand it could very well be that GNi are indeed privy to information that has not been released to the community yet, But I’m going to remain cautious until this is confirmed by Aventurine.

This is interesting, hopefully Tasos or Aventurine will officially respond to this, until then it might mean something or it might not.

He’s the VP, but he’s not speaking for Aventurine, he’s speaking only for GNi, so he might not know anymore then what they last told his company, things might be subject to change or he might not of been informed yet by Aventurine about any definite launch date yet.

In the first email response he used the words “plans are being made” and “in the next 60 days” that does not sound that definite to me, its quite vague and indicates to me that he does not have a specific date yet only a possibility.

In the second email he says “we will have a hosting centre up and running by Q1”, but he’s not explicitly stating Darkfall will definitely be using that hosting centre by Q1, I think he’s just saying it will be available by Q1.

Hopefully this does mean Darkfall is launching by the end of the year or in January but until Aventurine officially set a specific date we cant be sure.

If what you are saying is true then every statement the developers have made regarding the state of this games development, beta testing and release over the last year or more have been lies, or at the very least extremely misleading.

GrayGhost79 your straw man and Ad hominem arguments do not substantiate the legitimacy of this game.

I know polar you have made it clear that even if the game walked up to you on the street and beat you down stole your wallet you would still deny it even has a remote possibility to be real lol. I am not worried about what you think I was just stating facts in a debate I was having with someone that was worth debating with.

You are worried about what I think or what anyone else might think because you are here attempting to defend this games legitimacy, to deny it is silly, its self evident by your posts.

Straw man and Ad hominem arguments are not legitimate forms of debate, so you are resorting to illegitimate forms of debate, hardly a good foundation when attempting to prove the legitimacy of something.

Your “facts” do not substantiate this games legitimacy beyond reasonable doubt.

If they did then there would be no grounds to reasonably question the legitimacy of this game.

And people would not of been questioning the legitimacy of this game for the last 5 years, nor would they continue to do so.

Rather silly to deny this when the first sentence in the latest “review” of this game a few weeks from its official release date reads:

“Vaporware? Not at all!”

Let me ask you a simple question:

Do you still believe open beta will start and finish by early December and that the game will definitely launch in 2008 as Aventurine have stated it will?

Because If you don’t , then you yourself are questioning the legitimacy of this game.

And if these things do not happen, it will only further question the legitimacy of this game.

I seems that these 2 italian guys were the only ones who ASKED to see the game. Apparently you can go play it if you just call Tasos and ASK.

Aventurine sure knows how to do good marketing. I heard the only way to buy the game when it releases in late 2009 is to fly to Athens, walk to their offices and hand them 40 euros cash.

True story.

Open beta has already started and will finish as scheduled by early December.

These two people from mmorpgitalia have already played Open beta, you just have to travel to Athens to play Open beta ,what are you all waiting for?

Its not, they are both seasoned MMO gamers, and moderators/staff of the website.

Which makes it even more obvious that this was just another thinly veiled attempt to get positive coverage from yet another extremely tightly controlled visit under NDA to their offices with access granted to the actual game for only a very limited period of time, using some more anonymous sycophantic supplicants.

They have been doing this for the past 5 years and it seems to of been working so far, and judging by things, still is, so why change a winning formula.

I just notice this today on the official features FAQ, and I think it explains everything.

How many skills and spells will Darkfall have?

We currently have about 300 skills and 200 spells designed on paper, but we are hoping to get at least 500 skills and 500 spells in there before retail.”

I would not be surprised if most of the other features on this FAQ are also still only in the designed on paper stage.

Basicaly its a wish list that they are hoping to get to before retail, like pretty much any other MMO.

If you read the beta report 1 section on crafting and look at the latest screenshots, I think you will be able to get a very good idea about how crafting is implemented in Darkfall.

When I said major features I was referring to things like city building, city siegeing, 200v200 fights, naval combat, mounted combat,500 skills and 500 spells, clan management, NPC pets and hirelings, dynamic mob spawns, Racial warfare, alignment system, resource and territorial control etc.

My opinion of why these were not shown for this review was because they are still not implemented yet or they are not tested properly yet.

So either all or most of this will be implemented and tested over the next few weeks and be ready for launch.

Or all or most of it will not be implemented and tested over the next few weeks and wont be ready for launch.

Or Darkfall is not launching this year.

The screen shot accidentally uploaded to the MMORPG Italia website supports this.

Not to mention zero leakage, I agree, as I have said before there is only a very limited number of carefully selected people in this “public” beta In my opinion.

As you are say, it is very misleading of Aventurine to give the impression that Public beta has started and that more and more people are being invited, that is a lie as far as I’m concerned.

They are obviously still in the very early stages of beta, again very misleading to still be giving the impression that open beta is on schedule to end in early December and that the game is set to launch in 2008.

I’m purely expressing my incredulity at the credibility of this “review” in a satirical manner.

I’m interested in this game and I want to see new information about it, but this Review is an insult to the intelligence of the community in my opinion.

Look at all the wonderful things they say about this game, then look at the actual content of the review.

They could have been talking about the starting area of any generic fantasy game.

They did not even do any PVP, let alone mention any of the major features of this game, only quests and killing mobs.

Then they have the audacity to claim this is the most innovative, interesting completely new game that we have never seen before, that is total BS.

What is your agenda? I've said mine; this "review" is a blantant shill if you use common sense. You seem to agree  that DF is not innovative like the reviewer tried to impress upon us. What are you trying to argue about? I agree!!

Here are some of the “really innovative“ ,“really interesting“, things that are a “completely new approach” that we have never seen something like till now, that are exactly what we have been waiting for.

You log in, choose your preferred race between the six available

you can modify everything using a lot of sliders

Then you can choose the starting area

You familiarize yourself with the UI

You familiarize yourself with the controls

Then you take the first quest from the starting NPC to Gather 0 of 4 r_Goblin Axe

And then you go to the starting Areas that are full of Goblins.

These are what Aventurine presents as the “rats” of Darkfall.

You familiarize yourself with the combat system.

You fight the Goblins with ranged , mêlée or spells.

While you are doing this you can enjoy the sounds effects, the graphics and the weather effects.

Here’s my favourite parts of the review.

Vaporware? Not at all!

Let’s move to one of the most discussed aspect of the game: the graphic quality. Well, this won’t be a problem at all: it’s absolutely excellent, fluid and detailed.

Then we move to the sound, an element which we didn’t analyze from the soundtrack side because we preferred to concentrate on the environmental effects: these are absolutely detailed and realistic.

In conclusion: Darkfall exists, is really innovative and seems to confirm his plans. While we were trying it, here in Athens, we didn’t have any surprise, just confirmations: the game is really interesting, we’ve never seen something like this 'till now, and seems to be ready to realize its promises.

In few words: it’s a completely new approach to the Massive Multiplayer Gaming, and this is exactly what the communities are waiting for. Maybe it’s too soon to say this will be the next Ultima Online but it has all the elements in the right place.

No they don’t.

http://www.mmorpgitalia.it/forum/f821/darkfall-online-beta-review-212919/

I think its just wishful thinking and damage control to keep declaring this is not their full review of Darkfall beta.

Tasos calls this “MMORPG Italia Review”

MMORPG Italia calls this “Darkfall Online: Beta Review”

Tasos said :

“We have not lifted the NDA, we have only allowed them access for their review, but not to answer questions after this is out.”

So they are bound by NDA to reveal no more information after this access for this “review“, I think this is it, that’s all we are getting.

I would be happy to be proven incorrect if anyone can show that MMORPG Italia have stated otherwise.

Only problem is:

We'll do the same for any professional gaming media that's interested in coming here to get hands-on experience of the game. We will allow media wider access to the beta soon enough, but for now this can only happen on site.

So currently they would have to travel to Athens.

I’ve been asking VPellen to enquire about arranging this in the Darkfall beta NDA sticky.

This would be a great way to finally settle this issue, if someone objective and professional from MMORPG previews / reviews public beta is would be a win win for all concerned in my opinion.
