The problem I have with this though is now instead of bots and your typical MMO hacks, you'll have wall hacks and other FPS hacks.

Probably not.

I don't imagine most of the game being kept client side.  Most likely server side.  So, an aimbot/wall hack type program wouldn't work because it wouldn't be able to see where the other client is (In most FPS games, the server sends all of the information to the client, the client just shows what the server tells it)

What MMO's now are on server side?  Everyone I knowof is on client and gets hacks and bots over time.  I've been saying for a while that mmo's should be on the server instead of client but no MMO has done it yet.

Bots are different than hacks though.. bots analyze the code and pretty much.. send keystrokes back.  Was there ever an aimbot for planetside?

I never played Planetside.  I heard their were wall hacks and other types of hacks which is why I never played it.

Good code sanitizes hacks. Plain and simple. Its usually just too expensive or not bothersome enough to hotfix. Its not about the hackers. They're always gonna be there on every game. The devs already know what they're up against in that arena... its up to them to pull their weight.

Ummm, so you're saying WoW and WAR, and Lineage 2, the 3 biggest MMO's have poor coding?  So far no MMO is hackproof.

I can say the same for FPS', COD4, Halo3, and and Team Fortress also all have hacks.  Those are poorly coded too?

I hope it'll be a good sci-fi title.  We need some good sci-fi MMOs, I'm getting bored of the same ol same ol.  I've given up on MMO's until a good one comes along.

The thing about making it free to play permanently is that there really isn't such a thing as a free game. Every game out there makes money somehow. If not by subscription fees, then by sales of the software or in-game ads or though (god forbid) a cash shop. TR was designed to make money from subscription fees. Trying to translate it now into something else would just muck it up even more and since NCsoft obvioualy isn't planning on putting any more effort into development, the game will clearly never get any better than it is now, so who would continue to play anyway?

I am familiar with how F2P works (it is a business model, not a charity). I do think that if NCSoft were to allow this title to pass to another publisher, so that it could get a fresh start (NCSoft has already given up on the game) it would do well.

Re-Designing a game for F2P isnt as hard as you may think, especially for those companies that have actual experience with how these games work.

I agree with you.  Look at Archlord and RF Online, both were pay games made into F2P games.  Thats what I meant in my post anyway, not for NCsoft to make it free, but for them to sell the game.  Plus if they sold the game it would make up for some of the cost they put into it already.

I wonder if they'll look into selling the game, or if they're just going to shred it and forget it like they did with Auto Assult.  Its strange their just making it free for a month, they should give the payed players freedom to pick any game they want to play for free for their account and make it free now.  I'tll be interesting to see how many people start playing it when it becomes free.

I just want it to feel like Stargate.  I hope to not see Jeffa standing around waiting for someone to attack them.  I want quests that feel right, not just clear out a room.  This game can be great or it can be just another run of the mill MMO with the Stargate name tagged on to it.

Their is another thing to think about if and when the game goes gold.  Are there going to be hacks like in most other FPS'.  I'm saying FPS because this is more like an FPS where their will be wall hacks and auto aim hacks and such rather than bots.  Every FPS I play on a PC has some pretty bad hacks and those will ruin the game if they don't figure out a way to make it hack proof (which is virtually impossible).  This is why the more and more online games I play on the PC I think it would be best to just have them on consoles because their harder to hack.  CoD 4 on the PC is full of hackers while CoD 4 on the Xbox 360 doesn't seem to have many if any.  I love playing single player games on the PC but multiplayer games are getting to be a bore because of all the cheaters.

How can him releasing a game be bad for anyone? People need to look at things logically and see that theres no reason for him to lie.

Ummm why would he put in a few negitives, to make it seem more real.  Reading it I got the idea that he wanted to say "sure the game is flawed, but its still awesome".  I'm just more of an "I don't believe it till I see it" type of person.  If the game comes out and its good, awsome, I'll play it.  BUT if it comes out and it sucks then everyone who hyped it is going to feel dumb.  And IF it doesn't come out at all then their going to feel even dumber.  I've just seen a lot of hyped games either flop or not come out to learn my lesson not to believe what I hear.

I can't trust this first impression.  1. its on the darkfall server.  2. they have a reputation of having people swarm forums talking about the game.  This could be a fake, its a Darkfall dev , it even says he's a dev.   How can you trust a first impression from someone who made the game?  How do we know these are quotes from real testers?   Before I trust a review about this game it would have to be done by a reputable game magazine or myself.  Now if IGN or Xplay did a first impression on the game then I'd trust it.  Until then I'll have to wait before I even get a little excited.

Ok I know people are saying this game is vapourware but do you honestly think they would string the fans along by making up a thread with different quotes?  I take it at face value and happy to see some good feedback but if its 'not' real and I am fool for believing it then so be it but if it is then it goes down as one of the biggest laughs.

If Darkfall comes out with what it promises I can see a huge amount of population from AoC, WAR and WOW migrating over.  On a personal level nearly all my friends are playing one game or another and there is one common theme going on.  Each one wants to play DF more than anything else and will dump their game 'if' it comes out.

Did I mention anything about me thinking its vaporware?  I don't think I said any such thing.  I just said a dev wrote the piece and said he quoted people from the beta which I don't trust.  Its like a commercial for a movie that lists out all the reviewers that liked the movie, only to find out that their were more reviewers that didn't.  This person could have picked and chose who said good things while leaving out all the bad.  Also he could have just made all of it up. This company does have a thing about sending out people to different mmo sites to make up things and then slam people for talking negative.

I'm not saying the game isn't coming out.  I'm just saying until I read something from a reputable reviewer or unless I play it myself I don't trust it.  I'm like this with most games and movies, because I know people can get cought up in a game they really want to play and they'll back it even if they haven't seen it with their own eyes.  I've seen some videos and some that look like they might be game play videos, but no full battles, no major game play, no full scenes.  Its like watching a commercial on a movie and their a bunch of cut scenes of just the action.  Its hard for me to get excited about that.

I keep thinking of the game Dark and Light.  I wanted that game to be good for the longest time.  I watched videos and I heard what people were saying about it but in the end it just sucked.  I won't let myself get sucked in again, so until I read a real review, and see real game play or play the game myself I choose not to take what a dev writes about the game.

If you're just doing hypotheticles then don't post it here.  If its not happening then why are you even thinking it and why should we care?

Did you notice the "IF" word at the beginning of my sentence? I didn't say "OMG AoC has been sold!!!". I said " If AoC is sold..". Now can you see the difference?

And don't say it's not happening. You don't know. And neither do I. But we do know 80-90% of subscribers have quit AoC and some people estimate Q3 report might look really bad.

If you don't care then fine, you can move on. I'm just speculating here and trying to get a discussion going.

What if, what if, what if.  What if the world blew up?  What if I won the lottery?  What ifs are worthelss.  Speculation is worthless unless their is possible proof and their isn't.  I play AoC and I have many friends who play AoC and we have fun.  Keep it to yourself.  Its Saturday, I'm going out with friends, you stay home and speculate all day long.

I believe the standard policy is to buy a game and have a skeleton crew of 3-5 people to run it, trying to milk it as much as possible to get some profit.

But has there been a situation where a company that bought an MMO actually tried to improve it and invested a lot of money into it? And if there has, were they successful?

I think most people hate FC even more than the game so maybe if some other company bought FC, people might come back. Also if they got rid of those incompetent FC devs (the worst ones at least), hired some real professionals, took the servers down for a year, and added tons of new content and features, it could make AoC a totally different game.

With the current situation, I doubt any other company wants to buy AoC and keep developing it, but who knows, it might happen.

I was in the beta and knew I wouldn't pay for it right away.  I know it'll turn out to be a good game but most MMO's its good to wait 6 months or more till they have most of the kinks out of it.

I have friends playing it and they're having fun but they do say their are problems still.  I'm more critical than they are so I'll just wait.

Hmmmm, this goes against Acclaims business model which is F2P for ALL their games.  Makes me wonder if Mirage works for the Devs of Spellborn or if this person is just trying to screw with us.

"About Acclaim Games Inc.
Acclaim is a revolutionary company with a familiar name. Three years and 7 million registered users ago, former Activision CEO Howard Marks purchased the Acclaim name looking to revive one of the video game industry’s former giants. With the help of renowned game director David Perry, Marks succeeded. Today, Acclaim offers some of the finest in multiplayer online gaming while using a new, free to play business model. Acclaim strives to offer its users a fun, community-oriented experience with a selection of titles ranging from casual browser games to hardcore MMOs. To learn more, visit www.acclaim.com."

SO if the game only has a F2P area but its P2P to exit the free area then it goes against Acclaims business model.

I agree with you.  The more I play MMO's the more I hate them.  Every single one I play (P2P or F2P) have the same stupid fighting dynamics...except AoC but it has other issues that will hopefully be fixed.  Their are some MMO's coming out in the future (hopefully this year) that look interesting and may be a good boost to MMO gaming but right now all games I've played have just bored me to death.  I play mostly single player games and sometimes multiplayer.  The problem I find with multiplayer (and also with MMO's) is after a few months of a new game coming out it gets riddled with hackers, bots which totally ruins the game for me.  On the Xbox 360 you probably have fewer people cheating but I like the keyboard and joystick much more (at least until someone comes out with a better way to control your character).

The Released games listed to the left I've played more than half of them and none of them have kept my interest.

I agree , Adding More DC Talent may prevent DCUO from becoming the next NGE.  As long as they do not get vetoed by SOE morons.

SOE has a mind of its own and that mind is old and has alzheimers.

I've played so many F2P games and have never bought anything in a cash shop.  The cash shop is for people who want to basically cheat to get ahead.  You don't have to use the cashs hop if you don't want to.
