Adding more of the same is fine if you leave that to maybe 25% - 35% of the expansion for comfort, but for a game to live beyond its veteran playerbase, you have to give them new toys to play with. My toddler hardly uses the same toy over and over and over again without getting bored. He always needs something else to keep him busy or interested.

Well as much as I would have liked to see him actually finish the product he released, I guess overall this is really nothing to get upset over. I would have been more concerned if he was actually concentrating and focusing on his project Tabula Rasa... but with his trip to space I am sure he hasn't been focusing on the game for some time. Oh well I guess we'll never see TR's true potential and it's hype lived up to where it "could" have been. Good luck in your pursuits Garriott. |

Was a little disappointed to not see anything other than a folder with some screenshots. "Sounds" good from what was said, just would have liked to "See" something a little more concrete. Maybe next time? |

WAR is my best suggestion. It is the only game that truly pushes one towards grouping as it is needed to play the more PvP oriented portions of it. While you can go solo, or go guildless... it truly isn't ideal to do so. I have played quite a few MMO's and so far this is the only one that I have grouped the most in, and most discouraged playing solo. |

Originally posted by SaintViktor Yes your right, WAR is a PvP game for a PvP crowd. 1) The lore is presented very well through the PvE quests and the style in which they built it. If you have honestly read every block of text for every quest, you wouldn't be saying this. Playing my DoK... I picked up so much on the dynamics of the dark elf society, their Houses and hatred. Read... thats where the lore is. 2) ORvR is not "non-existant" and if you feel that way your not looking to trying hard enough. Its not hard to pull together a band of people to go out and start something. Soon enough people come to fight back. Just this night I was in a massive battle (one of many) in T2 mind you. Minimum of a full warband one both sides. It was fun, though I had my ass handed to me. The classes are not poorly done, but they would feel that way if you were used to your sterotypical classes. They made classes interesting and unique, they function differently and have a different feel. The game was not overhyped, at least not by the company itself. They made no references to it being the "steak" of MMO's. Everything on the box was delivered. They have alot yet to tweak and adjust, but sometimes I get a feeling people just like to bitch because they can, not because they need to. |

Not even close. Mark delivered whereas Brad didn't. Mark is still working hard on his game, he is passionate about it but I don't feel that is any reason to belittle him. He is doing what he has to do to get people excited about his product, and even though it has some issues, flaws and bugs its still a pretty damn good, solid and fun game. Brad and Mark have two completely different design philosophies as well as personalities. So not... not even close. |

Total "SP" don't mean a thing, your knowledge of how things work.... and a few basic skills are all you need to get going. Period. |

Grudgestones, whether you're from Karak Azul, Karaz-a-Karak, the Grey Mountains, or our distant kin from the Black, our Book of Grudges brims like a frothing mug of Bugman's XXXXXX! We need to follow the lead of the High King and strike our grudges one by one as the old holds fall back into our hands. The Underway is rife with vermin, the orcs crawl all over Karaz Ankor, and it is the duty of all Grudgestone jewlers to abandon your tools and take up arms! Remember our history, beardlings, longbeards, all! Duregar the Jeweler took the Arecstone to avenge his grief, and we will never forget it. Every grudge must be repaid with blood, and every oath fulfilled! Hiding in our halls, polishing our gemstones or bemoaning lost gold will not push back the greenskins -- only traveling out by the Underway or aboveground will save Karaz Ankor! Rouse yourselves, leave behind your hordes and your treasuries, and come with me! We will present our Clan muster before High King Grudgebearer to join the throng and avenge our ancestors and their ancestors! By the beards of our fathers, by the braids of our mothers, by Grungni, Valaya, and Grimnir, by every rune and every treasure-horde we've ever lost, we will march forth! <<from a rune-sheet sent abroad to all clan holdings of the Grudgestones>>
OOC: a dwarf-only guild based around the Grudgestone clan? It's true! If you want your dwarf to be a Grudgestone and you're on Avelorn either send some mail to Ormir to alert him to your intentions or post here! What are the bonuses of being a Grudgestone? A long, complex history; access to full genealogical charts and records of all our ancestors (and the ability to edit the charts or add more ancestors, etc.) and joining the craftguild of our ancestor Duregar, the jewlers and metalsmiths. Of course, this does mean that you have to be willing to play one of the Grudgestone Kin, but if it's a small price to pay and can enhance your RP! Visit our new website and JOIN US TODAY! |

As long as the game continues to keep its focus on RvR, people as a whole create a brand new game everytime I log on. This alone... a brand new experience everyday is far from shallow in comparison to a game that is the same old boring treadmill. |

WoW.... don't we already have a multitude of MMO's that play you out to be the hero, and even one now after several updates.... that already has a SW flavor? Well the wait is over, maybe you'll have a SW MMO to play that may carry with it a better story and less bugs, but once again will be nothing different and won't be what most were expecting. I know it wasn't what I was hoping for, but I am sure there are many who will gobble this one up just like WoW. |

Well if I read the article correctly, they even state that they had this mentioned and stated as a feature in various documentation. So in my opinion if they take it out NOW after roughly 4 or 5 years of development, sort of comes across as "screwing" those who bought into that feature and utilized it. Also being it took them this long to realize it was a "bug" sort of also screams greed despite their best efforts in saying otherwise. I agree that you shouldn't get something for nothing, but I also believe that when you offer something up as a feature and you take it away, you reap what you sow. You may only have 10,000 players doing that, but thats $150,000 a month no longer in your pocket, no longer feeding your developers and investors. Assuming all of those pissed cancel. |

The only thing I dislike about WAR right now is how they rolled out the servers. Giving us an exceptionally overwhelming amount of choices but nothing to back up why we needed all of them. Being he gameplay of WAR is almost totally dependante of the amount of people you have to work with, they should have done a sort of "funneling" for those coming in. Example: All new character created would have to select from a small series of questions, maybe 3 total questions that help to decide what ruleset and server they should join. Then a small list of servers, 3 or 4 tops would show up for them to select and choose from. If you have a specific server you want to join (say your joining an existing guild or joining up with friends) then have the option to see a full server list. But at least if they did this they would have had a better chance of filling up servers and controlling population better than just giving everyone all of the choices ahead of time. This could have also helped them save resources and paying for servers not really being used. There are far to many Low/Low servers in WAR right now and it could have been alleviated if they did something like this. |

Originally posted by Illius There's no need to be insulting... You do realize that the majority of the people who play earn their own money and don't use "dad's" money what so ever. It's the mentality that you have there that is spreading throughout the genre that is ruining it. Like Ravanos said, instead of finding something that suits you better, you are hell bent on changing the mmo genre into something it never was. It's like saying "hey, I think the color blue is awesome and if you want to live on my street your house has to be blue". Pretty soon you'll be the only one living on that street. While it was not meant to be insulting, I find it rediculous to see people want to turn this genre into something other than what it was intended for. MMO's and gaming in general is and should be considered simple entertainment, not work. Artifically creating time-sinks and over-the-top elaborate gaming systems never from what I saw to be the future of this genre. What I expected to see was evolution and inovation. Adding more "work" does nothing to further the game, in fact really takes away from the element of fun. Now I see what this genre has evolved into and its not because of the developers, but the type of players joining it and their mentality. I started playing MMO's back in the old days of UO over 10 years ago. I can absolutely say that this "hardcore" mentality was never around. In fact the huge "ZERG PvP OMG LOLz SuXoRs" was never even a factor. As for your comment regarding blue homes.... there are other streets out there with other houses. You don't have to live in our communities, as there are others. But since the majority of the paying and subscribing players are the ones who prefer the blue houses... expect to see them. But if you want another color... by all means go build and paint one yourself, a well as pay for it too. |
