Rift is quietly becoming the best themepark on the market
General Discussion « Rift 9/10/12 11:37:44 PM
Ironically, the one game that is closest (in tech, not implementation) to what you are asking for is WoW. Because WoW is the only game that when you level through a zone that the zone changes based on your actions. Theoretically they could use this phasing to do what you are asking.
Of course there is the issue that YOU can see what you have done, but no one else can. So its far from a perfect solution, but they are the closest if they choose to ever take that route |

Rift is quietly becoming the best themepark on the market
General Discussion « Rift 9/10/12 11:16:32 PM
Originally posted by VirusDancer I think most people would be cool with this too, I certainly would. But this whole train of thought is about levelling up, not max level.
It would be cool if Rift had mega-invasions, scaled down to whichever zone but would absolutely require a large amount of people not currently in the zone to converge on the zone. In other words, just the zone's inhabitants wouldnt be enough.
But no game currently on the market has this sort of mechanic. EQ2, GW2 and Rift have their mentoring systems, but its not remotely the same thing si what you are asking. EQ1 probably came the closest with high level mobs in lower level zones you could go extract revenge on, and epic quests that frequently took you back to old zones. |

Rift is quietly becoming the best themepark on the market
General Discussion « Rift 9/10/12 10:43:57 PM
Originally posted by GeezerGamer The Instant Adventures dont really address the issue though. People want a change of scenery. IAs dont do that, you are still in the same zones. And IAs are the only addition to the 1-49 game content wise, everything else is for 50+. People (in general) dont want new things to do in the same zones, they want different zones.
You said 'several' new leveling paths. And IAs are the only addition and even as you admitted they are a good break in between (I agree with this fully) but its not a new path, just more options in the same patch.

Again, ill call out the hyperbole. Ive actually stated NUMEROUS times GW2 isnt going to be for everyone. There is a difference between responding to a post claiming 'GW2's launch was a failure' and being one of the people that doesnt understand how someone is bored with GW2 and thinks it must be because they played too many hours or are 'playing it wrong'. Its obvious you are seeing what you want to see, but fact check before trying to do a call out thread.
But going on...I have never said I wasn't impressed by dimensions, in fact I have praised their concept before. I don't like quest hubs? Why are you making this shit up? I have no issues with quest hubs at all.
I suggest you stop making stuff, and put me on ignore.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Game Update 1.4 Arrives on PTS
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 9/10/12 9:38:03 PM
they are adding a new raid, but this is a hardly a set of features to be excited about. Improved group finder is something any other company would either patch overnight or do as a minor thing over next weeks maintenence.

Rift is quietly becoming the best themepark on the market
General Discussion « Rift 9/10/12 9:33:24 PM
Rift doesnt do anything quietly, Trion is perhaps the loudest dev company around. Rift technically is a good game. If you enjoy carrot on a stick game play, Rift is your game. If you are more into the RPG aspect, then Rift still lags behind games like EQ2 and even WoW. Im not sure dimensions will be enough to right this (they need a racial overhaul for one). The large, static walls of text where most of the games inhabitants are generic are not an interesting way to tell a story. And the whole Guardians and Defiant hate each other -> they can become mercenaries -> they can group together in arbitray other factions -> they are cool with each other now is just silly. |

EQ2: Nov 13th expansion, Chains of Eternity

Why are there no sandbox MMO's - Why do they Fail?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 9/10/12 10:07:43 AM
What is worth mentioning is that SWG was a buggy, horrible mess with zero semblence of any kind of balance. It severely lacked content as well.
However, it held around 300k subs before (probably) Lucas Arts NGE'd it. The only other games to do that, in the region SWG was released in, are WoW and EQ1. Thats it. No other game had over 300k subs after year 2. A third one got there later on, and that is EvE.
So there are 4 sustained MMORPGs above 300k users in the NA/EU region in the history of the genre. 2 of them are sandboxes, and one was a spectacular mess.
However, since the days of SWG and EvE (both released around same time I believe), there hasnt been a success. For one, the things are too damn hard to code. And then there is the PvP divide. Probably 75% of people who want a sandbox absolutely despise the notion of open PvP being forced upon them, yet almost all the sandboxes developed since have had this. The open PvP makes sense for a sandbox, but its just not what the average person wants. SWG handled the balance pretty well. |

Do you think GW2 will have content updates at the same level of P2P titles?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 9/10/12 9:55:56 AM
Originally posted by Fadedbomb Hey I am going to post something completely pulled out of my ass!! And in fancy colors!
We don't know what kind of monetary income they have. If enough people buy bag slots and dyes and such off the shop they could very well have the monetary income of other titles. Sure, they wont get the $13 per person of a p2p, but if they get $5 per person and have 3 times the active player base of a game like Rift, well there you go.
We don't have any idea how things will settle. |

How to improve the game and/or free to play to gain more players and hence improve pay to play...
The Tavern (General) « Everquest II 9/10/12 9:45:48 AM
EQ2 is 8 years old now, well past the time where you can significantly generate interest in a game. Sadly, it was never the success it deserved during the KoS -> RoK era. It still is probably one of the best games on the market to level a new character if you have never played it before, but its days of having a top endgame are gone.
And it just doesnt have the revenue to do much. The cash shop and f2p model allows for some development still at least, and SoE will keep adding content as long as there is enough revenue to allow it (just look at EQ1). AT least the new expansion isnt just a 'feature pack', they saw how poorly that went over and went back to a traditional (but sadly tiny looking) expansion. |

Hate to say it... officially disgusted with SOE
The Tavern (General) « Everquest II 9/10/12 9:28:18 AM
Cant we just have one general SoE thread for people who are can't think beyond themselves enough to understand the f2p model? Good, you don't like it. here is your cookie and move on. System wasn't designed for people who want to play high level characters for free (although intelligent people can do it very cheaply if they arent altaholics).

There is one fairly big issue with the cooking mats:
Its nerfed the blue crafting mats drop rate from bags. Maybe give the bags a chance to drop 2 scales/bloods/whatever to compensate for the lower drop rate? |

It would be nifty to have a forums where the game could actually be discussed amongst the community here. This certainly aint it. |

OP isnt off base here, and thankfully I only saw 1 or 2 posts that was trying to tell him he was wrong. I think what they have though is a big step up from PQs/Rifts and a good building block. And while the world itself may not be very dynamic, the leveling process kind of is. I don't think many people will go through the same zone the same way twice, Ill end up doing an event that takes me halfway across the zone and start doing things in that area. And while you will exhaust the 1-15 stuff and much of the 15-25 stuff, you will surely see new events in other level ranges on different playthroughs.

Biggest MMO Failure to date?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 9/08/12 5:45:28 PM
Originally posted by Bior337 Trying to debate with someone who doesnt understand why, when discussing games like SWTOR, its important to talk about the western region only (and also thinks WoW only has 1.2 million western subs) is pretty pointless. But like if it helps you sleep at night then believe whatever you want... |

Originally posted by Zylaxx Hey, if thinking that helps you sleep at night, go for it.
Its an absolutely asinine opinion though. EvE is doing just fine, is it not? So theres two right there. Its a quality issue not a pricing model issue. Most MMO players are in their mid 20s and up where 15 bucks isnt a large monthly fee for entertainment. |
|
Originally posted by Bior337 region chat was a very big part of EQ. I know some MMOs didnt have them, but its silly to think they were better off for it unless they were RP servers. |

Biggest MMO Failure to date?

Originally posted by Bior337 It worst its third, because there are only 2 other games over 200k subs (EvE, WoW). Is it a failure? sure. biggest failure? not even close.
The real question is....what kind of issues cause someone to care so much about it at this stage? |
