I turned mine off the day the original game went retail and never turned it back on. The OOC chat channel could be removed and I would never know it. That is one of the reasons I advise people to pick their kinship with care and in ours we have screened kin  invites only. You must do a few small and large groups with us before you will ever get a invite to join.

I love the new weapon system, have not gotten into the mines itself yet but the new outdoor areas are gorgeous. My RK and Warden are still lvl 1 nameholders but so far so very very good.

Turbine's QA would have to slip a hell of a lot to get them down to the level of the rest of the industry. Are they perfect, heck no, just very damn good and what they lack in QA they more than make up for in customer service and communication.

Wow is based on the simplest form of Diku mud, a proven formula, it is just like a old pair of jeans. Kinda raggy and not stylish but comfortable

Often through my years of online gaming I have seen people scream we want something different. Then when they get it they don't play it. The Saga of Ryzom is a  prime examples of a very different game which struggles to remain financialy viable. Other examples I can think of is the original SWG,  The Matrix, Planetside, WWII Online, Tabula Rosa, Earth and Beyond, Horizons and Auto Assault. All of these strayed for the tradional DIKU design and none have been very successful or at least not as successful as the original EQ and WoW.

80% or 90% of the time I stay in a kinship chat tab where all I see is kinship, tells, and system anouncements. I have a couple of other chat tabs set up, one has fellowship chat only, another for nothing but combat info. The LoTRO chat interface is a wonderful tool and very flexible and makes the game almost idiot free.

woke up at 3:30 and logged in. Funny as heck seeing hundreds of people running around Bree at 4:00 am est. Made a Warden and a RK. Then logged my LM in and tried to figure out the new trait system. I seem to be killling as quick if not quicer than ever so I must of gotten some of it right :). Started in on my Volume II chaper one quests, then went back out and played the RK a bit and the Warden a bit. Too early to tell if I am going to like them. Performance is great and I noticed that Bree was the smoothest I have ever seen it even with a 100 or so other players scurrying about.

Too much to do and not enough time to do it in, too bad I still need to work for a living. But I am taking tommorrow as a vacation day. yes I am a addict.

That is a big download!!!

if you have a 10,000 file download and you x out after 5000 files  of 10,000 files is downloaded, yes you do start over at 1. 1 of 5000K though not 1 of 10,000. You do not lose the 5000 that you had already downloaded. Hope this helps.

Definitely not. I quit AoC before I even got out of tortage because I thought the combat was horrible, the instancing killed immersion, and the game was all around (TORTAGE was) boring. Don't think any of those have been fixed.

That explains a lot. Thanks for your admission. Many people such as yourself never got off "noob" island. Makes me want to shake my head and make a 'tutting' sound. Such a shame. Don't get me wrong to judge the game on tortage like many reviews was mentioned wrong, either way. How many loading screens did you come across in Tortage, remember? Tortage is a pain but also a mild introduction. There is a story to be told. Did you try any different classes? and definately no PvP :(

I can appreciate that might all you might need to pass judgement, but really it does offer a lot more later on, the basis being GvG play.

I could not bear the thought of having to redo Tortage over and over and over just to try different classes. Don't take that wrong because Tortage was definitly did very very well in my opinion, just too bad it is the only newbie path and once through it is enough for me.

I am still mildly peeved at Turbine for not adding more lvl 15 to 30 content because in the past two years ( 6 months of beta and 18 months of release) I have done the Lone Lands and N Downs to where I have most of the quests to where I know them by heart. But at least in LoTRO I can craft my gear and grind mobs instead of doing quests to get though those levels.

Anyway I qut AoC in my mid levels for a variety of reasons, mostly due to the over strict pathing and instancing. PvP cannot carry a MMO. Even the RvR in DAoC got old after awhile and it was the best PvP I have ever played

I agree on this one. Tortage is not as fun as the rest of the game. I liked post 20 best.

even post 20 it was paint by numbers leveling, hallway style areas and instancing, and no worthwhile crafting etc etc. The post 20 areas did not have as much atmosphere to me either. if the game had consisted of 20 or 30 areas did as well as Tortage I would still be playing maybe. Or maybe not, like I said paint by the numbers leveling and no real freedom of movement just sucked. Not to mention the still not itemized loot tables, no crafting, no item customization...sighh the list goes on and on. Definitly a B or C class MMO.

Crafting is a GRIND.  To master a craft requires lots and lots of resource gathering.  Hours and hours of resource gathering.  Of course, you do a lot of this while questing so it's not so bad.  Not only does it require time but also you will probably need to buy certain ingredients from the AH and vendors, and can also speed up your mastery by buying resources from the AH.  But as pointed out, the light of the end of the tunnel is creating high quality gear with high demand that sells well.

IMO the most interesting thing about crafting is the various markets it creates.  Markets for raw resources, recipes, shards, critical success items, crafting tools, and of course, the finished goods...  There are opportunities to buy and sell and make money in all of these areas.  I can't wait to see what happens on the T6 marketplace when Moria comes out...  I don't think anyone is prepared for the insane demand for ore and the prices that will comes along with it!

heh you should see my vault  chests , I am going to be a virtual bill gates muhahahahhahahhahahh

back to topic though, yeah crafting is a grind. to me efveryting in MMOs is a grind of a sort, it is just a question of whether the grind is fun or not.

That is one of the reasons why being in a good kinship makes or breaks a game for you. Lots of time my kinmates and I will be in six different areas all gathering and for a fellowship just to have the voice chat and talk about the game, sports, politics or whatever. makes the grind a lot more palatable. That reminds me I am running late for the ingame coffee klatch and I need to gather more wood.

I have a question.

With the upcomming Warden it would be cool if I could use macros for the gambit combinations since it will be hard to learn all 30 gambit sets with 2-5 diffrent combinations. S

After reading this article I am not so sure that you will be able to or even want to use macros for th egambits. Read page 3

www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/239-developer-diary-creating-a-new-class-the-warden

I guess it all depends on whether the gambit display bar is accessible by keystroke. At any rate it looks like a fun and  interesting class.

? why not?

the gambit panel  is separate from the skills  panels, not sure if it is keyboard accessible yet. On the not sure if you want to part a buddy who was in beta said you want to play the gambits strategically, not sure what he means by that. Guess we will find out soon.

Do the items made from high end recipes actually compete with the end game raiding items, and are they profitable to make?

Define challenging? Finding crit components, and shards can be tough or just require a lot of persistance and luck. After that it is having good equipment, putting it in a bag and crossing the fingers hoping for a crit. It is not SWG challenging where you had to really scrounge for the best resources or original EQII where you had to really pay attention during the crafting process.

Compete yes yes and yes. Most raid armor is pretty speacialized and not all that great for daily wear. Great for some things, but not as good as crafted for daily use. Both of my 50's are in 80% crafted 20% drop gear, jewery, weapons, my little lvl 16 alt is in 100% crafted armor using a quest reward bow.

Yes, higher level stuff sells for a good coin. Lower level stuff ( teir 1 and tier 2) just is not worn long enough in my opinion for to put a lot of effort into. Tier 3 will last a bit longer  and tier 4 and 5 gear sells well. I see quite a bit of tier 2 and tier 3 gear on the AH, but I dunno how well it sells. With the Moria expansion they will add tier 6 and also crafting guilds and legendaries which will further buff up the crafting.

forums.lotro.com/showthread.php

the manual can be found on the official site as well

I almost think this is my favorite part of the whole release.

To help with inventory management, we’ve modified most quest items so that they are no longer stored in your inventory, but are instead stored in the Quest Journal. This means that those boar hides you are looking for will no longer be cluttering up your inventory and will now be found in the journal. If you are curious about those quest items and would like to examine them, you still can. You’ll just need to navigate to the quest in the journal and hover over the item there, just like you would with an item in your regular inventory.

By the way, you may have noticed we ’ve said that “most ” items have been removed from your inventory. A few quest items cannot since they are usable in some fashion. Items that cannot be removed from your inventory are:

* Letters or other readable objects
* Quest items given for Crafting Quests
* Items that can be traded to other players or listed on the auction house.
* Items that must be used as part of the Quest.
* Quest starter Items

All other items should be no longer be stored in your inventory.

* Key rings are in! Permanent keys can now be clicked on to be added to a Key Ring section of your traits. Doing so will delete the key, and any doors that were opened by the keys now look for the trait.
* A new, never-before-seen mount waits to be discovered!
* The cooldown on Edelharn Tokens has been reduced from 60 to 15 minutes!
* Once any of your characters has reached level 20, all characters on your account will be able to use the cosmetic outfit system! You will need to log in with one of your 20+ characters to open the option up for the rest of your characters.
* Hope has been replaced with a new Radiance value; its benefits remain the same, however.
* Scrollcases that reveal tool recipes can now be found in loot.
