Nah people just download because they wouldn't pay for it anyways, sure a few people would end up buying it eventually if they couldn't pirate but on the whole it's because of money issues. My friends are at Uni and all low on cash so download games because they just can't afford to buy them all. The problem is now though multiplayer games are the ones people tend to buy because you ened cd keys to play online.

No if someone was giving out free razors in the pub and you took one, that isn't theft but it's the person whose distributing it that's doing the crime.

Okay to clarify how stupid John's above post is, if someone is giving away free downloads of Fallout 3 and you accept don't even try to say it's their fault.  It's like blaming the car industry alone for global warming when  you yourself are sitting in the drivers seat of the very car or truck that is supporting the industry.
 

Give me a break to those that download games and don't pay for them and don't even pretend you're not to blame, get some morals.

Reason i'm asking is because i had some weird issues with the patcher after beta closed.

I was in beta since June of 08 and when the game launched i bought the digital download from EA, but when i'd go to launch the game i'd never get past the patcher.

With ridiculously slow downloading which took me over 30 hours to download (which is very odd for my DSL download speeds) and the patcher failing with no real resolution from EA i asked for my money back which they said they would refund (still waiting on the money to get refunded).

Problem for real is that i liked the game and knew right from beta that i'd want to play it.

I couldn't get the problem resolved for over a week and never got to play again.

Just thought i'd see if maybe there was still hope if i bought a CD and tried it with a new master account or something. 

I gave up though and went to play Hellgate London which may close soon, and also CoH/CoV which is a different playstyle but a well made very social game.

Sorry for ranting, hope you can get in game again, great world Mythic has there.

I'm in in America and i'm in the same boat, no email verification and i just fail at the patcher, i try to contact them and there is no way besides their EA website and i get a response two days later from some Indian guy that doesn't even respond with what i'm talking about in the first.  I'm just trying to figure out how to get my money back now, which looks like it can't happen.

I did this from a digital download and got no email verification for three days or so now, i give up on this, it's too unprofessional to deal with them.

Well at least some of you guys can get in, i've been stuck at authentication failing and failing to patch at all for days now, i preodered and can't get even past the patcher.

Well that blows my impression of what a decent launch this was going to be. 

What kind of mess is this?  DaoC was easy to patch and get playing, same with WoW and all the rest of the games i've played.

I'm thinking of heading back to CoH/CoV where at least i can play the damn game, if i can't get in this week i'm wondering if i'll even be able to get my money back.  Digital download so maybe, this has taken the steam out my hopes fast.

Got no idea what in the hell they're possibly doing or have done that disallows even the patcher to run.

Absolutely in the same mucky boat as you guys and i'm trying to not get angry about it, just playing Hellgate London and working on characters there.

I'm stuck at the authentication thing, did my codes to play a day early and that didn't work, didn't get the email confirm, i went with the downloaded version from EA store which works like a dream for Hellgate London.

I had the game already installed and had my master account from playing closed beta but i've yet to get an email confirmation and my codes didn't get me past the patcher. 

Well if this is how it's going to be i guess i'm playing Hellgate London, and NWN 2 or then Dragon Age. 

I did the customer service thing and am waiting like others for any kind of email response as to what's what.

Hope this isn't a sign of a crappy start for their launch.

I knew they'd put this stuff in eventually, but i'm glad to see it's done now, i had my settings to like 1920 x 1200 and wanted to see a bit of AA, even 2 x just for the extra polish.  Glad it's in game.  Yah the texture caching will be nice too,  just hope the servers come up now as they were but now i'm seeing servers down.  I want to test the new settings out, this game just kicks ass.

Well i'm playing both sides on different servers, as i've come to like my dwarf runepriest, and my greenskin gobby, also i like the orcs and then there is empire which is really deep, archmage is fun as hell and classy, squigs are crazy fun, i like so much about warhammer that i'm not able to choose sides. 

I'll be one of those nuts that plays too much and has too many alternate characters, but that's how it is with me.

I hear you on missing the characters, i've kept busy by making alts of different classes, so as not to get burned out in any real way when launch happens.

As for the launch well i'll have to wait a couple weeks after launch til i can buy the game.

I'm in that same boat with you as i'm goin to miss my chaos, darkelf, and greenskin guys, just hoping i can get back in even for a few more days before launch.  (then it's two weeks without warhammer for me)

Looking a lot like somebody's girlfriend dumped on them.  Hey bud there is always Hello Kitty online for you poor lonely smucks.

Most of the posts complaining about the mmo's being released just seem to be about the person posting as much as the game itself, if you can't find an mmo to play that makes you even somewhat happy then maybe you're setting your standards too high and just on that bandwagon that seems to enjoy bashing stuff and doesn't seem to be happy with anything.

Warhammer is a really solid game that's improving everyday as release closes in, i'm glad i like it.

I'd sort of hate to be in the group of players out there that can't seem to find a game to play, what the heck are you guys playing then ?  Cabal online or some other FTP crap that you can justifiably complain about?

Really a sort of limited experience by your own admittance and yet you felt the need to bash the game, if it's not your thing and your tired of WoW then just admit you need another mmo, and in my opinion the game has none of the flaws that you point out. 

WoW is a fine game but i like the gritty realism and the attention to detail that Warhammer is bringing, it's a finely made world that will get more development attention after release.

Play WoW if you choose but leave the criticism to people that have played this game more then a couple hours.

Well i guess your post answered my questions as to when beta was coming back up!

I was beginning to think that after a week down it'd surely be up this next week. Not a chance now.

Well one thing i'm glad for is this, that i won't burn out on the game at all before it even gets released.

I guess i understand why Mythic went and cut capitol cities til later after release, seems the release date was really right around the corner.

People can be pretty brainless, WoW is seamless as best as you're going to get until technology and software developement is forwarded.

You get to a new zone in WoW and not only can you look across the line as if it weren't there but you won't feel any loading because it's preloaded. 

Old DaoC was the same way except for dungeons and rvr zones.

I played NWN and EQ2 which are highly instanced but those games rocked serious addiction so i didn't mind a bit.

WoW is seamless where as you can run on your mount through zones and won't have to go through a gate or a load time or whatnot and that includes dungeons until you get to an instance portal for boss or raiding type encounters.

Don't exaggerate for the sake of trolling just to make a pointless point.  Anyways Warhammer is going to be pretty much like the other posts state. 

I'm about to start up again in WoW til WAR comes around since D3 isn't out for who knows how long.

Would like a trial key if anyone has one out there, tried to get one months back but go no response.

Wow, this game has gotten some serious hating coming down from the sky.  I haven't played it yet and frankly it's seeming like a better and better idea with all the constant posting i hear.

I waited to play this thing and anticipated like mad as everyone else did but you know it's sounding more to me like it really is still in developement. 

I'm getting the impression also that the people that are defending this game so much are maybe hoping it was better than it actually is and since there aren't any other games out right now you haven't much else to turn to. 

 I feel sorry for some people truly cause i know how it is to wish something were what you'd expected.

Personally i'm not playing any mmorpg right now, but am doing closed warhammer beta, i just can't see any games on the menu that are getting my attention to play. 

I wish otherwise but it's sort of sad.

I would suggest x-roads for around your level unless you have the expansion then you could go try out the Blood Elf area with lots of quests.  Best way to get there would be take the blimp to Undercity and then walk in the entrance but not down inside UC and to your right will be a portal to take you to the Capital BE city.

I like to level up in the forest around UC myself as i've played a lot of undead characters.

Also you want to get into pvp as soon as you can if you're into that, and duel people whenever you can to get an idea of what class you want to really play. 

Best suggestion i can give for levelling up is skip the elite instances that require too much time to get groups together for that loot you want because you'll be outlevelling it soon enough.  Don't grind mobs for xp and don't do the instances til end game pretty much.

Just stick to quests that you can do that don't require you to spend two hours to get small returns.

X-roads has a lot of nice small quests that can get you going, basically you can go to the nearest next area from there then get those quests etc.

Also spend time doing crafting and keeping your weapon skills up to level.  I went with engineer and mining and had a blast with those.  Bombs, a flying mount etc. lots of fun, and also metal ore sells really easily.

Only reason to do instances is if you just want to enjoy them for what they are and aren't interested in powerlevelling, i had worked on 3 different warlocks that i maxed out and then various other alts i tried, so to me i did the instances as i could and had a lot of fun in them.

Anyways i'm not playing now (been out since november 07) but beta testing warhammer so . . . enjoy, that game is a monster and one of the best to play and waste time in.
