Lord of the Rings Online: The Balrog WILL kill you.

I am playing the trial and enjoying it so far but still not sure if I want to continue playing it... I will make a final conclusion after many hours of playing this weekend.

Just one question: Is this game primarily PvE or PvP focused? From what I have read around the internets, it appears it leans toward the PvP side a lot more. If that's the case, how enjoyable/good is the PvE side still? (I am more of a PvE guy who enjoys a little PvP.. do you think I will enjoy it in the long run?)

(I am posting this on a couple different forums because the more input/views/comments the better :) )

EVE is pure PvP game. The entire design is based on it.
Takle your time and start a new trial to figure out more about the game, it has got some steep learning curve.

Even though you don't fancy PvP, I strongly encourage you to give it a shot. Skill system and game machanics favours new players and offer different styles of PvP. Don't get affraid of larger ships and older players. More skill points mean that they can fly more ships, for you, as a new player small ships are the most viable since skill requirements raises with ship size as well as the costs.
PvP in EVE can be amazingly resource wise friendly and fun.

I suggest you to join Factional Warfare or some training corporation like EVE University.

Fly safe!

The voice of reason

Frankly, the PVE bit can/will get quite repetitive as, as stated above, EVE is mostly focussed on PVP. The thing is that that's not entirely true; it's focussed on interaction, ONE of which is shooting eachother in the face, but there's many other ways of interacting. Thing is that this early on in the game (and especially so when you're not used to MMO's requiring interaction) you won't realize it.

So; if you like interacting in an MMO (in whichever way) and be part of a team to get stuff done (whatever that may be) AND you're always annoyed at other MMO's where people can just ignore others and completely negate anything that makes an MMORPG into what it should be, then EVE might be good for you. There's tons of ways to work together, tons of playermade goals. If you can come up with a (niche) job IRL in warfare, trading, production or logistics there's probably an EVE equivalent for it.

If you like playing an MMO solo going against NPC and don't want to be 'interrupted' by others and don't want to (have to) interact with people then EVE sucks hard. This is a REAL MMO, regardless wether you like internet spaceships or not.

Yep, that is what I meant and didn't make clear.
Whatever you do in EVE(apart from missions) you compete with other players(PvP) - production, trading, mining, you fight for your space, resources, life and living.

Dont let all the posts about EVE being a pure PvP MMO.  I played the game for 2 years and didn't kill or be killed by anyone else because I was participating in PvE.  As one of the posts stated already even if you do not participate in battles EVE is set up so your actions alters the game in different ways.  I was a trader and I played the markets and also built a lot of equipment.  PvPers would buy this at inflated prices in distant regions.  With missions you can hit 'dungeons' or agent missions.  Now you can operate as an explorer and I enjoy that a fair bit.  Once you learn the skills you can go into a sector and drop probes to see if there are any plexes around.  If you find one you need to spot its location, can be easy or very tough depending.  Best thing is once you have found it you can really clean up.  Other professions can be mining, hauling or running player contracts.  There are so many options in the game you could play for 4 years like me and still not see half the game.  I play other games more now but I keep subscribing because I know there is so much to do in EVE and  I just need the time to do it.  Oh there is faction wafare now to so if you join a largish corporation you sometimes get given frigates or cruisers for free to fly out and fight.

Yes its PvP centric but that doesnt mean you have to participate because I didnt for years and still enjoyed the game.
