My Top 5 MMOs: |
I havent read much about JGE to be honest I am an avid Eve player and would like to know if this game would be similar features wise (with the expception of combat, I believe JGE is twitch) to Eve? A New Sci-fi spaceship MMO would be cool, I would love another space game to play along with Eve. The competition would be great for both games, it would give CCP a kick in the ass and make them develop certain features faster. If anyone would be so kind to give me a rundown of what JGE is offering features wise it would be helpful. |

We just migrated the community wiki over to Wikia (for some extra visibility) so you could take a look at the features list, etc. from there and make your own mind up http://jumpgateevo.wikia.com/wiki/Jumpgate_Evolution_Wiki In summary: no, they're two different games. They feature a number of similarities (mainly the genre) but I don't see the two as in direct competition. They're variations on the same theme - I see plenty of EVE players playing JGE and vice versa. Don't forget to sign yourself up for the beta if you havne't already |

OK, I'll try to condense my reading of the JGE forums into a few bullet points: 1) It will be more like a "space sim" in the sense of Wing Commander or Freelancer. More manual handling of the ship, not just giving orders and waiting for them to be executed. 2) Players will fly mostly small ships, think frigates in EvE. Except transports which might be like the industrials of EvE. Capital ships are limited to NPCs, at least for now. 3) There will be crafting and trading, but not as complex as in EvE. 4) The devs have promised a NPC AI that can be quite a challenge. 5) There will be three large factions with subfactions. Maybe comparable to factions ans (NPC)corps in EvE but details have not been released. For me personally, 1) and 4) are reason enough to give it a try. And if JGE looks good overall I might switch games. As good as EvE is, a JGE that keeps its promises might beat it |

It is definitely a twitch combat system. Which for action is quite fun to play. I really want to see Privateer and Elite functionality with this game to make me very happy. Highly customizeable ships, crafting, new discoveries, mining, squad owned bases/ships and maybe even mining facilities you can build. Game has a lot of promise and can't wait until I can get my hands on it. Hope to get in the beta but I haven't had too much luck on that for a while :) |

Strength, Courage, Wisdom..which one are you? |
I agree with a lot of you. Jumpgate, just by the very nature of the game is always going to be compared to EVE Online. I believe that it has managed to break away from being an EVE clone however by adopting manual control and with it's AI system that the developers were pretty proud of (Unscripted Action, etc. There was an interview in EDGE where the developers discuss how pirates attacked a base and the base defenses laughed ships to defend itself and fight off the pirates, all unscripted, that is to say, it wasn't meant to happen) It's these kind of things that I believe will give even EVE players a new lease of life, and that will make Jumpgate Evolution a classic MMO in it's own right. |

I think Jumpgate would have the potential to grab a handful of EVE's casual playerbase. However, for a lot of people EVE is very hardcore... and that's how they like it. I really enjoy EVE, but I'm really looking forward to giving Jumpgate a try as well. The developers seem really cool. |

Remember, Jumpgate Evolution is not the only space MMO heading our way. I keep forgetting the name, but a glimpse of it came out at the gaming industry event in Germany this year. I keep forgetting the name, but it looked very impressive, it was twitch based too. |

Depends. From what I've seen, I think JGE hsa a lot of appeal to Eve's more casual mission-running crowd, and people who play Eve because it's spaceships in space will at least try JGE. But for people who play Eve because it's a sandbox with hardcore pvp mechanics, JGE has very little appeal. Depending on how well things goes Eve could be facing serious competition from both Jumpgate (spaceships) and Darkfall (sandbox). Hopefully it'll force everyone to make better games. Personally I'm not hugely sold on the hype, but at the very least JGE looks like a 3D version of Subspace. Subspace was awesome in its own right and I'm sure Jumpgate will be as well. I won't be cancelling my Eve sub anytime soon though. |

Originally posted by IAmMMO Well..... I'm not sure, but I thiink two MMO's on the near horizon, Stargate Worlds and Startrek Online might have something to do with space. JGE's biggest hurdle might not be EVE, but rather overcoming the hype of those two games. Like others mentioned, none of these games will offer a game experience anything close to what EVE does (outside of being based in space) but I do agree it might incent CCP to compete a little harder and bring out features like ambulation. |
