Oh. Damn. I really had hopes for this one since they advertised the best crafting since pre-CU SWG. How you gonna do that kind of crafting with no-safe-zone, full-loot PvP? Couldn't even get to the mines on Siege Perilous to start chipping away at the rocks in UO, so I can't see how this could possibly be the crafters' paradise they're advertising. Oh well. At least maybe there'll be a game for you folks who enjoy this kind of torture...er...fun. |

Originally posted by Xix13 Depends on the skill system. If it allows you to be a miner and efficient fighter, I see no problem. If not, only guilds who can put up guards may be able to gather their materials safely. Like in EvE Online's 0.0 areas (in the case of EvE, it is because you can fly a mining barge OR a warship, not both at the same time). |

Its good to see that finally some mmos are catering to players that want a bit of realism and can actually affect each other rather than just playing against the computer. When I play an online game I want to actually get involved with the other players in a realistic way. That doesnt mean chatting with them about the weather while we mindlessly beat up mobs with no AI while holding each others hands. Whats the point in that? I can just play a single player game in co-operative mode with a friend if I want that. No give me a game where I can join forces with people and go to war with others. Thats the point of online gaming. People that cant handle that are pathetic and can just go and farm their phat loot in their fluffy & safe themepark games where nothing interesting ever happens. |

Well, yes, but to date, guilds haven't been really good about supplying guards for miners. Yes, EVE needs them. We always had a guard even for 0.5 mining because of the rats. But in EVE, there are just so MANY systems in 0.0, that it's pretty easy to find one that's relatively safe for mining (except for rats). Even in a home system at the edge of BoB space, we managed to get our mining in with no trouble. And EVE provides the tools that, properly alerted, can have us scurrying back to safety before the Bad Guys get to us. And, you're right again. In UO, it was rare to find somebody who built his/her toon as a, e.g., miner/mage. You usually put all your craftng skills on the mule and did the combat stuf on other toons, because of the skill point limitations. I DID have a friend who made a miner/Legendary mage, and he would delight in mining in Fel and blowing away folks who thought they'd found an easy mark. He had some funny stories. But he was a rarity. Dedicated crafters are, usually, by nature, less combat oriented in outlook. I know that's not always the case, but combat heavy folks, particularly PvP folks, don't usually also enjoy spending the hours it takes to build and supply a great crafter. It just seems to me that "the best crafting since pre-CU SWG" will be wasted in a full-loot, open-PvP game because the heavy crafting population will shy away from those kinds of games from the start. Of course, that'll make the crafters you DO get in Earthrise worth their weight in...whatever the currency will be. Expect to see some REALLY high prices for those uranium pellets too. lol The "Game for Me" will come along, if I live long enough. I'm actually kinda happy somebody's making a "Game for You" too. |

Xix, I think the problem exists only for miners who actually go out and are exposed to ganking. There will certainly be crafters, if only because people make alts for crafting. Which will then sit in a safe zone for crafting and have their materials delivered. Personally, I prefer an EvE style skill system, and a "roleplay" server with only one char per account would be OK for me. So the Earthrise announcements so far look interesting to me |

well enjoy having a moment of terrible lag only to realize that while you were stuck on the spot, another player killed you and took all your gear. yeah that sounds like great fun to me. |

OMG one more game down the whole... what a shame. By this i mean there is no point in full loot. because you can make and find all this bad ass gear you want but whats the point when ... if someone sees it on you everyone around will gank you for the fuck of it just because there an ass and can take your shit . yea thats fun let me tell ya. It makes crafting point less it makes items pointless all because you can loose them... let me rephrase that because you WILL lose them. stupidest idea ever |

I'm sorry, but no death penaltyis for new-age MMO gamers (aka what we call casual gamers). WoW is the game that started carebear deaths. All games had death penalties before. You can work hard to craft that stuff. If it matters so much, I suggest you get good enough at the game to defend yourself, otherwise you shouldn't be wearing that epic of gear. Worried about gankers? Hunt with friends, so you can protect each other while progressing. This forces players to -want- to play together instead of for themselves. What? Community? Yeah, it's probably new to you because you're from WoW.... |

Okay people Calm down. Really chill. This game has SO many mechanics that will protect you from losing your items. They are also mechanics in place that will keep ganking to a really low level. Ammunitions cost money to get. So every bullet you fire you are losing money. Which will make people really think if it is worth to waste ammo on your gear. The devs have kept casual and hardcore players in mind. This game will be very balanced for both the hardcore gamers and also the casual players.
please PLEASE read up on the game before you make a post on how horrible full pvp looting is. You will be suprised. |

Well it worked fine in old school Ultima Online. One thing to remember is that it's usually easier to come across loot in games that have full pvp looting. I lost all my unbanked stuff several times in Ultima Online. It wasn't the end of the world though, not by a long shot. I usually had several spare sets of armor, weapons and wotnot. I guess it depends how it's all implemented. |
