No, this won't be free.

It will most likely work the same way as City of Heroes and City of Villains currently do. It'll cost an upfront fee to buy the game, and then a monthly fee to play the game.

I doubt it'll be like Guild Wars (one time fee), as Cryptic's prior games (though marketed by NC Soft) were pay to play.

I would say its very likely to cost $ 14.99 per month. Upfront cost $50-60.

But the game is looking to be well worth it in my eyes.

You're doing it wrong.

They will pay all players 50 bucks to start the game and will proceed to pay us 15 after the 1st 30 days.

I think the game will launch as a paid game with a subsciption fee and will after 3-4 months become like guild wars for a time, before they remove all the fees and introduce an item mall.

The game is nice though I wouldn't pay for it, I don't like the graphics and I doubt I'll stay there for more than a month anyway.

Oh brother, another one of those who thinks that just because something's on the internet, it must be free. I get tired of buying a game, paying a monthly subscription rate, then seeing people like this one come out of the woodwork looking for a freebie.

Where do you think the money comes from to develop these things, Sunshine? Santa Claus?

Heh.. good luck with that. I'll see you on CO in the year 2999.. /sarcasm

Like City of Heroes, World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, Age of Conan, and all the other MMO's that follow this structire, Champions Online will ALWAYS be a upfront fee to buy the game and then a monthy fee to play the game.

If you don't like it, then go to the Game List page and find a free MMO that will bore you within hours.

SCIENCE PROVES CAPS LOCK CAN CURE CANCER.

If a game is good then I'd eagerly pay 15 bucks a month for it. MMORPGs like these require 15 bucks a month to keep updating frequently and keeping the game at a fun pace with more and more content. The only reason this works for games that don't have monthly fees such as GWs is because they either use an item mall (which GWs is starting to do) or release a huge amount of expansions that you pretty much have to buy to enjoy the game. 15 bucks a month is chump change to me. But 15 bucks multiplied by half a million certainly is alot for them. Like I said, I'll easily support a game that I enjoy to make sure it continues on a fun path.

This game is looking pretty good to me, I don't mind throwin down some money to keep a game alive, as long as the game is good, and the support is worth it. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to pay to play a game that isn't run well, even if the game is good. Good support for the game is a must too, but judging by CO's site, that doesn't look like it'll be a problem.

Unfortunately, sunshine and rainbows don't power games just yet, hopefully someday they will, but until they do, let's look at it this way. Just about everything in life we do costs money. You wanna go to the movies, to see a new movie out. That's 8 or nine bucks. Popcorn, drinks, candy, that can add up to around 15 bucks, for one person, for about an hour and a half, maybe two hours of entertainment. With subscription games, you get a month of enterntainment for 15 bucks or lower. That's a bargain, depending on what you're playing. Like I said, the game's got to be good, but if it's good, you have no reason to be complaining.

And yah, the upfront 50-60 bucks can be hefty for some people, but you're gonna find that with any new game you're lookin to buy, so really there's no argument there either. The only thing I can't stand is a game with a subscription, AND a cash shop *cough* RAGNAROK. *cough* That's stupid. If I'm paying a subscription to play the game, I better damn well get the full game. S'all I'm sayin. =p
