M- massive (huge game world) M- multiplayer (5 million) O- online (internet connection is required) R- role ( 10 classes to choose from) P- playing (you play the role you choose) G- game ( hard to believe, but it is a game)
Everyone complains when a new game comes out and it is just like all the rest (WarHammer) But when a game dares to be a little different (Guild Wars)everyone is quick to say that it is not a "proper MMO" . Guild Wars is, by definition, a Proper MMO . Hope this helps to clear things up for those of you who have a hard time figuring things out.

I know that this is an old topic and that it has been discussed way too many times. But I still get irritated by reading posts in which people still refuse to accept this fact. So I just had to make this post, sorry. |

Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so as well. |
If it eases a load off your shoulders, then I say..Gof or it! Isn't that what these forums are for? I don't play GW incidentally, hope you don't mind. |

Well, Arenanet themselves call it a "Co-operative online roleplaying game" and they should know.. Who cares what they call it, it is a really neat game and GW 2 will be far more massive with less instances :D |

Some people have an issue with the instances and the fact that you can never have more than 24 people in a "playing" area at once. I, however, still consider myself to be playing the game whilst standing around in town, selling good to merchants etc. where many hundreds of people are at once. I therefore consider it an MMO.
So what if ArenaNet call it a CORPG? Does that fact that someone calls me by my surname change the fact that my first name is what it is? |

Actually, you can be more at the siege in factions, you know the PvP castle. But your name is not a good comparision, this is more like a band saying that they play a certain kind of music. GW is at another class in games than Wow and everquest, the game is more like Neverwinter nights than wow. That is a good thing. Also the story in GW is far better than that in any MMO in existance. But I still fail to see what it matters what people call the game? More than 5,5 millions sold, that's more than most of the MMOs put together (yeah, not counting wow off course). |

With regards to GW being in a different class, how so? It follows almost exactly the same basic structure other than the fact that the world is entirely instances. The fact that it may have a better storyline, in your opinion, is irrelevant. |

I call it a bloody good game that I can play with my friends. Feel free to attach any lable to it if you really feel the need to categorize it or just happen to like useless semantics discussions about those same lables. Not that this will change the fact that you like the game or not. Silly ppl! |

Why can't people accept that this game is a proper MMORPG, the only thing different to the other MMORPGs is that the places where you can train with your team are instanced. By doing this more people will have to work with eachother in a team to get trough certain area', and in my opinion that is the core meaning of the original role playing. |

Not to be rude, but who cares wether you think it's massive or not. I have a pretty decent computer, and there enough people online at once to make this computer lag. That is pretty massive. Also, how many people do you think ar standing in Lions Arch? Maybe 500 or 600 people. Seems like a large amount. Then look up at the top right hand corner. That thing has "districts," and at peak hours of the day, there are up to 7 districts. Lets do a litlle math here, shall we? (7 disctricts) x (500 people) = 3,500 people. (3,500 people per city) x ( 10 # of big cities) = 35,000 people. Now, only about half the amount of people are even on at that time because of time zones, so while one half is playing, the others are sleeping, and vice versa. So, lets multiply this by two. (35,000) x (2) = 60,000 people. Now this is only america in the larger cities, lets not forget all the small towns, explorable areas, missions... there are thousands of them, so lets say there is about 200,000 people there. (60,000) + (200,000) = 260,000 So, we have around a quarter of a million people on now, and lets not forget all the other countries that play. I mean, only god knows how many Koreans are playing this game. So do you see where I am going with this one, it massive... MOST LIKELY MY ESTIMATIONS ARE WRONG, BUT YOU GET THE POINT, RIGHT? |

mmog's are massively multiplayer. ie lots of people playing together. in guildwars only 24 people maximum can play together (and most the times it just 8), that is not massively multiplayer. many games, such as battlefield 2, would deserve the ti | |
