You get a good amount of those a new MMO and I'll be very interested.
EVE has all of these things except the dynamic mob spawns. If you change the mob spawns to other players then that's pretty dynamic. But I do believe that EVE has all the other things you're looking for. If you haven't given it a try, please do.
An honest review of EVE Online:
I've played EVE for almost 3 years. I have left the game a few times, tried other MMOs, but I always come back to EVE. I think for me EVE gives me everything I want in an MMO. Sandbox, challenge, social, political, and economical parts all rolled into one.
1st EVE is not a game for the impatient. Your skills train in real time. Meaning if it takes 4 hours 3 minutes to train, that's how long it takes. Your skills train rather you are online or not. Both these ideas aren't in any other MMO that I'm aware of. There's no power leveling so to speak in game. The game is played on one server. With an average of 35,000 players on at any one time. With over 250,000 total, the game is always alive. 5,000 systems gives you more than enough room to move around. You won't truely understand just how big this game is intil you open the map and zoom out. Then set a course for the other side of the galaxy.
Sandbox: There's nothing or no one telling you were to go next. You can do whatever, and I mean whatever, you want to do. Mine, PVE, PVP, pirate, etc. It's all up to you. CCP has given the players complete rule of the game. They have set some basic rules of play and that's the end of it. They have given 3 areas for the 3 classes of players: High Sec where you can PVE and mine in peace. Low Sec where you can PVP, along with mining and PVE, just with added risk. However with added risk comes added reward. Null Sec is where the players "run" the game. Alliances control space, they patrol their space, they live there, mine there, etc. The alliance can do whatever they want. CCP stays out of the way.
Social: This game will weed out the inmature players within a week. Sometimes within hours. You're left with a community of people that are one of the best around. They act just like the game does. They won't hand you information that you could look up for yourself. They won't hold your hand and tell you what to trade, sell, make, explore, etc. But if you ask a real question, one that isn't in LEET and uses actual grammar, you'll be overwhelmed with their responses. There's in game EVE-Voice, that's free. EVE Radio "plays music for the masses" EVE TV a news program about the game with real people.
Political: SWG had player ran cities, EVE has player ran regions. Hundreds of systems controlled by a group of players. Just like in the real world, governements make and break treaties to their advantage. Same in EVE. EVE players even elect other players to go to CCP's HQ in Iceland to repersent the player base.
Economy: 100% player driven. Billions are traded daily. CCP has a PhD in economics giving reports on the market. They have talked about EVE's economy at Harvard! You can also use in game currency, ISK, to buy time cards. Letting you play for free really.
EVE is not your typical MMO. You will either love it or hate it. I love it. Alot of people don't. EVE is like NASCAR: People think it's dumb and you just turn left all the time. Yet when you give it a chance you notice that going left is the most technical thing you've ever seen. EVE is just a dumb spaceship game where you point and click. EVE doesn't have a bunch of childish or lazy players. Game mechanics weed them out. EVE isn't a game that tells you you can only do this. EVE is what you make it. Give it a try. But leave your typical MMO mentality at the door.
And then I checked out the sticky in this forum. I wasn't aware of MMORPG's guild search function. Awsome feature!
But I would still like anyone's opinion about role playing in Guild Wars. Good or bad experiences, give 'em to me.
Are there any role playing guilds? I'm not talking about PVE, I mean acutal role playing. I don't think I've seen a single person anywhere I've been in game that has even attempted to role play.
I understand that the game is geared towards PVP, but the storyline, lore, and the expansions scream for role play! It also doesn't help that we can't add a bio to our characters and whatnot. Again, this is probably due to the fact it's geared towards PVP.
Either way, I've searched several different forums for recuritment, and I haven't had any luck. Anyone here got any information on role playing in Guild Wars?
I first played Guild Wars over a year ago. I stopped playing after a few weeks, for various reason having nothing to do with the game. Now I have started playing again in just the last few weeks. Although I haven't got far in the game, I find a healthy population everywhere I go. I would say I see about a 75% veteren to 25% new player population. IMHO after all these years and new people are still coming to the game, I think that's pretty healthy.
I don't have a problem finding groups, finding information from players, etc. Most of the people I run into are great. Of course the game has it share of elite "I'm too good to even look at you NOOB!" people, and "I'm a NOOB, can I have some gold!" people.
You didn't say if you were in a guild or not. I can only assume, which is a bad word, that being in a guild would give you someone to play with, to either PVP, quest, or just have fun. As far as not wanting to grind in games anymore, that's pretty much what any MMO is. They aren't designed that way, the player base makes it that way. Everyone wants to have max everything. Most people just fly through the game, to get to the max level, max armor, weapon, ships, etc... They miss out on the beauty of the game.
To be honest, the only MMO that I have played that was a true sandbox, and didn't have a grind was EVE Online. But not everyone likes stars and spaceships. Now if they would only make a fanasty MMO just like EVE, that would be great!
