-WoW draws the kiddies away from the niche MMORPGs...on the positive side
-but on the negative side...most major companies will look at WoW as benchmark and innovation of new mmorpg game concepts will stagnate...
-niche mmorpgs with unique gameplay or setting will still exist on a smaller level...I'm always coming back to WWII Online / Battleground Europe which is now 7 years old and still unique in its features, setting and gameplay possibilities...
A joystick is highly recommend...especially for flying!
The new open beta version 1.29 will adress this and offer better keymapping +support for key+mouse steering. You can also download a certain file to map it to keys now...
There are a lot of payment options to pay for WWIIOL, including paypal, bank transfer and direct debit, and some more methods used in Your country. You don't need a CC to join and play this!

The difference is:
1. Every action counts towards the "big picture" of capturing towns and winning the map. There are two factions, cities can be captured (by infantry only) and one side can really win. Every unit You loose and every enemy You kill is a piece of the puzzle towards winning or loosing. Every action You do counts towards winning or loosing! Every city captured is a gain for Your side and a loss for the enemy side and one step ahead of winning the map!
2. Player skill and tactics. Teamwork and coordination often decides about winning and loosing a city. Its all player-driven. A newbie can kill a general...a bullet is a bullet! Every soldier or vehicle is player-driven. There are these high adrenaline moments when You try to sneak up an enemy tank or approach an enemy forward base to place some explosives...and You'll never know how the enemy player(s) will react...
3. A hidden strategic layer of player-driven command structure: Player-officers and generals organise attacks, can move brigades and divisions, decide about production of weapons and vehicles in the factories, organise and lead the players! As a simple soldier You may just fight somewhere, but the location of the attack most probably has been selected by a high command officer to attack there and the win or loss of that city may have influence of a bigger picture battle plan of the player-driven high command!
Imagine BGE like a soccer or football match: There's the field and the rules. And two teams fight against each other. In this game You can play on different postions on the field and try to score, but You can also play as trainer or be part of the management of Your team. All levels need to work together to win!

Taljinn just said it! I agree.
Which console would you like to see MMOs released for?
