    • Controls?
    • When I was playign FFXI  I hooked up my XBOX controller to my PC USB port and used that to move around.  It was MUCH easier than tryign to use the keyboard and mouse, but you could still do that.  The controller does not replace the keyboard and mouse but augments it, allowing you to move around using the controller and do all the keys from the keyboard, including typing in chat.

    • IM Thinking Of Buying This Game...
    • Well, that was a useful answer #2 .. lets try this.

      1.  Yes there is craqftign.  you have diffrent gathering types, such as Scavanging( gettign from dead humanoid bodies), butchering (getting items from dead monsters). Salvaging - (getting items off of other items) and Cultivaltion - (planting and harvesting seeds).  From this you can then use the items in Apothecary and Talisman making.  Now Salvaging usually only gives you things fro Talisman making so they kindof go together.  Talismans are buffs which you can add to sokets in items and armor. Apothecary makes potions for health, AP, Str etc.

      2.  There are some spell effects, but they are not that huge to cause much issues.

      3.  At level 20 you can buy a mount, which is race specific.  The cost is fairly reasonable so you wont have to grind forever to afford a mount.

4 RvR is one thing that Mythic has done good in the past, and in this game I believe they brought over the good parts. There are scenarios (capture the flag or run with the item) type games where you queue up, and when the queue timers pop you are all placed into a instance where you fight each other for Reknown points.

Open RvR is where you walk into a RvR Lake and start beating up on the opposition, taking Objectives and gaining reknown.

Keep Sieges and City Sieges are lareger scale RvR more in the line of Daoc raids.

Reknown unlocks items and skills at the reknown merchants.

      5.  The game is very addictive and fun, but can also be played by the casual player very well.  If you do not like RvR all the time, there is plenty of PvE and storyline to be had.

      6.  you can find many sites on the web that sell the game, and it is the standard price for games at this time.  The monthly fee is also in line with other games.

    • Crafting - Can anyone tell me what its like?
    • So the gathering professions of Butchering and Scavanging allow you to gather items off of animals (for butchering) and humanoids (for Scavanging).  What you will get are things like insects or animal parts which can be used in Apothecary to make potions, or you may get things like coins or trinkets which can be used to make Talismans.   Talisman making is not in as of yet, so I do not know much about it, but I woudl think they work like enchantments in other games, allowing you to add abilities to items.

Apothecary allows you to take specific componenst to make potions.  You can make things like AP regen, healing and defensive potions to list a few. You use different ingreients to make each type of potion. You add additional items you buy off the merchant or find to make the potion stable and to increase either the output or effectiveness of the potion.

Each component has a level, you can only make items within your learned level, whcih you do by making potions.   When you place an ingredient into the UI, you get a meter as to the chances of the potion being successful.  You can add water or items of different types and levels to increase the chance of success.  You can add other items also to increase the effectiveness.  You can only add 3 additional items to the key ingredient.  If you succeed in crafting the potion you may get a bump in your skill level.  If you fail, you may lose the container you were using (I have not yet lost anythign but the container).

Cultivation allows you to use seeds you find by scavanging or through drops or bought.  You plant the seeds into your plot, which is just the UI.  You need to add fertilizer, water etc at different times of the gow process whcih can take a bit of time (I have not done this in a long while, so taking it from memory). When done you can reap the harvest, or if it fails I think you get some of the seeds back.  I found this craft exceedingly boring, so never took it up too high.

I did take my apothecary up above 100, and was makin some decent potions, but in all, the potions are not too effective.  You are better off getting a priest to buff you and a healer to heal you.  I have yet to have a potion save my life in combat.

My hopes are that they take this concept and build upon it to have a much richer crafting system in the future, allowing the crafting of other items that will be of grat use, such as weapons and armor, same as DAOC, but I really think they don't want that for some reason ... but one could hope.
