I don't blame SOE one bit for the TCG, it's a great idea and it's probably making them quite a bit more money than just the SWG subs were.

I don't see how they are accountable for the actions of those who play the game...  It's a weak attempt to blame SOE for the actions of the players.  SOE has done a hell of a lot of things wrong but the TCG isn't one of them.

Players are accountable to themselves.  SOE isn't forcing them to play the TCG.

You do make a good point, like many others here, about SOE not forcing people to take part, but your all missing the point, what your all saying is like saying that the national lottery doesn't force people to play, casinos don't force people to play ,yet they're regulated because they're recognised as gambling, so why shouldn't this be regulated and actually advertised as gambling also? It requires real currency from the player in order to "BET" on a CHANCE of recieving something, this is what defines gambling no matter where or how it's employed.

i think the difference is that you arent getting anything tangible or of value. I can go to a hotel in SWG and play lugjack and win credits - is that gambling? I pay a monthly subscription fee and have a chance to win virtual credits that cannot be redeemed for RL money or RL items

I think the obvious difference (if you're willing to see it) is that in lugjack, you're not paying real dollars to the Sony Online Store hoping to win something that adds to your real gameplay experience.

Surely you can see the difference made by gambling with real money?

I've noticed that despite all the debate, no one has answered some simple questions posed earlier.  If this is risking real money on a chance outcome, why not just call it what it is?  Why not let people know about the actual odds of winning?  Why not inform them of the risks of playing?  Why not ensure that the odds of winning are in fact verifiable?  What harm would any of these steps do?  It seems to me that they could only benefit all players, why the resistance? because gambling also comes with an age limit

i guess from what i've seen here some ppl don't have any problem with drug dealers or traffickers either as they don't force ppl to buy from them and it's up to the addicts if they want to spend their money

      what server? What city?

I did a quick 'census' last night on Starsider ... around 630pm EST. There were 425 non-anonymous players online. I did the same on Chilastra about 15 mins later and there were 367 non-anonymous players online.  . . and I didnt count neutral commandos which are known to be credit-farmers

At least on those servers, it was not dead.

I play on Bloodfin, Flurry, and Lowca.  Bloodfin is the server I have played on for the past couple of years when I log on because it is the ONLY one I could find any players on.

I suppose all of these players have been hiding in space this whole time, that must be it.  I haven't spend countless hours looking for them or anything...

Bloodfin is well populated - when I did my lil non-scientific census, both starsider and chilastra were listed as 'medium' as was bria and bloodfin so it probably has around the same population.

Not sure about Flurry or Lowcra. . .

the free vet month ended yesterday so those numbers are very likely to be higher than they otherwise would i did the same sort of thing a week ago and got 200-250 maybe on starsider and either chilistra or chimera

there are 7 servers that can hit medium during peak times eu or us as far as i could tell, of peak they all dropped to light(not sure if any drop to v light).  This time last year there were at least 3 that hit heavy

fyi this is medium by SOE standards and is unlikely to be medium by anyone else' standards. I think it only takes 50-75 ppl to be online to class a server as medium now.

I'll try it tonight to see what I come up with. Sure, weekends are always going to be a little higher.

My *guess* is that medium is a minimum of 250 players. Light would be 100 and v.light would be < 100

Those numbers are not a glowing endorsment of the game.

Yeah not really. But i think its better than what people give it credit for.best case scenario, worst is the pop is exactly what ppl think it is

i logged in to farstar when it was at med and the only words i can use to describe to amount off ppl onlin e are **** all(well not the only words) either your 'guess' is very different from when the reality is or the stated server amounts are bugged, knowing SOE i could believe either tbh

the population in SWG is ambiguos as not everyone can be on all servers 24/7 to find out so u have to base it upon what you see yourself

the only ppl that can say for certain are SOE and the last number i heard about coming from them was 100,000 so i wouldn't trust them to tell you the truth

Trust me, when and if SWG dies my life will go on as normal mine too although i will miss the loss of potential this game had in the current crowded wow clone market. And so should youre life have done, but you choosed to be bitter about something that happened years ago. sorry not me never played pre-cu

LIfe is a bitch,(sometimes)just take it, swallow it and pay SOE £10/$15 a month for the privilege

And yes iam blind, there is absolutley no one around on the servers, ihave been playing for my self the last 2 month...i just pay a little extra for my account so SOE dont crash and burn. i didn't see anyone say all the servers are completely dead(although some ppl do) there just aren't hundreds of players about any more

And yeah, idont have any fun at all ingame. Sorry i was wrong im just login for the sake of it.

Yeah, im one of the WoW kiddys that NGE was maked for, but its funny couse i hate WoW. Well i guess you guys are right. i lasted 3 days  in the wow trial and can't stand wow, but that doesn't change the fact that nge and almost everything done since has been copied from wow and that the wow kiddies are the audiance SOE are trying(and failing) to attract

Yeah, i better stop play the game I like to play couse you guys says so.

"Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit" - Oscar Wilde

SWG is about as dead as an MMORPG gets whilst it still has servers running, this is an undeniable fact. It has a subscriber base of about 7k according to haters, 25k according to rabid fanbois. Even taking the middle ground you're looking at about 17k, if it weren't for station life support and Smedley's refusal to accept he screwed up it would be gone. i count myself as neither a rabid hater or rabid fanboi and would honestly put the population at around 5k now

There's good reason this game has such a small Dev team, small playerbase and the most notorious reputation in the industry. All three are well deserved this I most definitely have to agree with, if you actually like the game then you're in the minority.

No one is saying you don't enjoy SWG, they're just pointing out why it is despised by nearly all gamers and all the MMO industry. The NGE is like new coke, but imagine coca cola refused to accept they were wrong and took all coke off the market and left new coke saying "We made chages at our factories and burnt the old recipie so there's no going back, now shut up drink and smile!". and kept changing the recipe, continually making it worse as they went along

"Enjoy new coke, it's more coksey than classic coke!" - Julio Torres
