    • selling Time cards in game? ahhh ok?
    • As has been said already RMT is going to happen in any MMO. Unfortunately there is no stopping it because there's a lot of money to be made by farmers. CCP's solution is an effective control of RMT in that it limits the value of the in-game currency and keeps it from becoming severely inflated.

It doesn't require your username or password. EVE-Mon and many other EVE tools use the limited API key that each character recieves from CCP for just these types of functions. It provides access to certain character information in an xml download format and the apps just import this so no security risk.

Some EVE apps do ask for the full api key which is a little bit risky but still much safer than giving out your account info.

Also EVE-Mon has a feature that allows you to set a skill plan and will tell you when each skill in that plan will be done training (with special note of those that will finish during downtime). You can use this to make sure that the skills you want to train are done when you are able to be at the keyboard to switch them.

He might have thought you were a troll because all the questions you are asking about are answered in many places both here and on the main site.

Here's a few quick answers though:

      1. You only control 1 ship at a time but can own as many as you want.

      2. You control your ship by essentially giving it commands which it then executes. (i.e. move in this direction, target this enemy, fire these guns etc) but it is not a flight simulator, it's more like a naval simulator. The smallest of the ships (frigates) are larger than 747's so no dogfighting.

      3. Tradeskillers are essential to this game as all the ships/modules/ammo etc are made exclusively by the players. Mining is also done exclusively by players but neither mining nor building are mandatory when playing the game. The economy is completely player driven and is the most indepth economy in any game.

Also skills train in real-time so you can't grind a skill to max. You basically buy it and then tell it to train to level 1-5 and it takes an exponentially longer amount of time for each skill level.

If you are truly interested in the game you really should read up a bit on it as there is a mountain of info available and depending on your gaming style you either tend to love it or hate it.

Oh and if you decide to give the trial a try absolutely make sure you finish the tutorial. Yes it's long and can be boring but if you just skip it and then start asking questions in rookie chat the players in there will make cosy here look like a fluffy puppydog.

Eve Community is full of e-peen rambo wanna-be's, by this you will quickly find your self killed by x10 number of players against your 1 shuttle, and then to make matters even more funny, they will actually claim a victory and think they did something UBER l33tz0r cause their kill mail increased.

Yes, Eve is full of PvP griefers, and no matter how you play you will die and lose all your stuff. I suggest you pass on Eve and try something else.

Eve has a small subscription player base, lets keep it that way.

My biggest gripe with EVE was that skills are learnt in real time and as I joined a year and a half after launch, I would and always be behind others - as I'm a competitive player it only took 6 months before I gave up because of this.

However you sir have no idea.

You must have gone into low sec space to have gotten ganked, you also probably didnt have any counter measure equipment, like warp core stabilisers? and possibly a micro warp drive to counter a web?

Yea you do lose your ship and gear in this game, quite possibly one of the games best features! PvP and death actually matter - although as long as you fit your ship with junk loot, and make sure you insure it - you have practically nothing to lose.

However if you do splash out and spend iskies on good gear, and then go solo unprepared as a noobie into low sec space - what exactly do you expect?

Not so long ago I made a trial account and spent all 14 days pvping with other noob corp members for giggles - we went can tipping..lost a hell of alot of gear, also stole a crap load of ore. The games about risk, if you try to go solo you'll get pasted, if you fly with others - potential is limitless.

Also presumably you read up on the game before playing it? you knew exactly what you were getting into. Go take a cold shower and chill out for a bit, you probably only lost 10ks isk worth of stuff - not that much in the long run ^^

Now if they were to Open up a brand spanking new EVE server for those of us that hate being behind - I'd be on it before you could say ' Waffle'

Even if they opened a new server you would be behind. Regardless of whether or not the little spcount ticker says so or not. Old players on a new server WOULD quickly outpace you on a new server in terms of Isk, Alliances would have POS's being put up within months of the server opening and there would be no way for anyone to take them down until roughly 8-10 months after the server launched because no-one would be able to fly dread to take them out. Not to mention the fact that the thousands of players that are currently fighting over 0.0 space would have nothing to do because there are no outposts to fight over and they cannot take out POS's. That would pretty much just leave patrolling low-sec for kills.

Trust me you really wouldn't want them to open a new server. It would make the current server look like Hello Kitty in comparison.

It's pointless as a new character to compare yourself to 5 year vets. Of course they have more total SP and of course they are more versatile, but that doesn't mean you can't compete, it really doesn't. It's been said time and time again and it still holds true. You can only use at MAX about 10 million SP in any ship at any one time so anyone who gets past that point is on even footing with a vet in that particual ship or races ships, they just lack the versatility which IMO is the way it should be. I can't level a char up to 70-80 in WoW and then suddenly decide I want to play another class and be at the same level as someone who's subbed to WoW for 3 years and has 5-8 level 70's with full gear.

Yeah, of course tactics also play into it. I'd say Eve is a solid 50/50 between skills and gear versus tactics. Yeah, some people will try to start a fight about that too, I suppose. The bottom line is it's my damn opinion (and some others would agree once they figure it out) and not necessarily some others. But to say people are dumb or incompetent just because they don't agree is juvenile.

Some of those victorious moments are truly great. The bottom line is that the training system in the game works for a particular market segment; which is great for that segment. It just doesn't fit other people's needs. Likewise, the whole purpose of the system is for it's obvious capitalistic benefits (for the publisher); not to pick up a particular segment.

I'll take a 50/50 skills & gear/tactics ratio over the 90/10 gear/skills ratio for most other MMO's. I'd also argue that gear is even less important in EVE. I'd say it's more like a 10/40/50 gear/skills/tactics ratio in EVE because no matter how many billions of isk you spend on the most tricked out ship in the game, if you don't know how to fly it it will go pop very quickly.
