Sure I could see Permadeath working. I'd go with low skill caps / low level cap. Fast ramp up.
Sandbox or a highly repeatable setup. It shouldn't be the typical linear quest based game.
Just not sure what to do about money and items stored in a bank. Do you let these items get passed down to new characters? This way the new offspring at least has a legacy he/she inherited.
Also, do you allow certain abilities to filter through?
Also, is there a bailout if I can get a friend to rez me?
How about AfterLife? Once I'm dead, is there a cool afterlife game? You know, life really begins after you die? Now that would be awesome
And that's how you make Permadeath work. When they die, they transition into a new life / world.
Not required; I'm no PermaDie expert I humbly state. But that might be something
All kinds of benefits to a PErmadeath game. Would mean something to be max level. PVP wars would see bloody conclusions. Killing a player will seriously impact the world and community. All sorts of interesting opportunities open up. All sorts of things. Wonderful potential.
No idea how to handle lag deaths. Let them get a friend to rez them perhaps. Would basically require grouping. Do you have a limited number of lives instead?
Looks pretty cool like a full blown trade wars or something without the turns

Geez, this game looks like it took the worst parts from WoW (the mechanics) and the worst parts of EVE (space ship setting, god awful combat) and forced them to marry each other.
Ummm, eww.
Like the other guy said you pilot your own ship ![]()
The combat seems very Freelancer-like
Well, its all up to your imagination. City of Heroes gets the award for really *trying* to make me feel like one. The NPCs even walk around town speaking of your deeds
Did I feel like a hero though? meh, I just dont know. Not really from what I can remember.
I jsut remember standing there thinking it was all just a setup. If I didnt help that lady get her purse she would just sit there and fight forever with the fake thug NPCs. If I intercede and save her, then a moment later I see that same lady/citizen fighting again with the thugs.
It always seemed fake too me.
I felt like a hero in many single player games you know but not really in an MMO in PVE ever
Now in PVP I've felt like a hero when I've helped friends get revenge on a griefer. ![]()

APB is not developed by a major AAA company, its actually a company that was created for the project. Later on though, they negotiated a deal with Webzen for a distribution. So this grand theft auto wannabe mmo, will definitetly have a chance out there. It is an indie production though.
Im working for an indie myself, on a sci-fi project that will have no levels, but a lot of action, a lot of history and background, there are no "kill 10 genetic pink bunnies" missions either.
I'd consider Realtime studios much more major then some garage developer. Realtime studios is proven; Crackdown xbox360 for example. I firmly disagree on calling them "Indie".
Do you guys call any studio that developers a game "Indie" all because they are not owned by a publisher? So was Bioware "Indie" before they were picked up by EA? Is Id software "Indie"?
Are you still playing (or subscribed to) your first MMO?
