• • Why are the current crop of mmo's so bad?

  • I tried going back to WoW. It is difficult, even more so after playing Warhammer. So far Warhammer is not as amazing as I thought it would be but it is very fun and enjoyable, I have an amazing guild, and I tingle at what the game may be like a year or so down the road. It's biggest strength likely is potential. And it at least does not butcher it's own story line, cough cough.

     

    Anyways, I can not go back to WoW now. It is starting to feel out dated, and to a degree it is. I had hopes for wrath of the lich king but it seems like extra frosting on an already too sweet cake. I have a craving for some real food, and we will see what that turns out to be. Spell Born comes out in November as well if I remember, I will try that out and Aion as well whenever it releases. If one of the games happens to be better than Warhammer to me, I'll end up playing it.

  • Tanks are not OP. In fact, mauraders can kill tanks. The truth is most players are simply horriblle players, sad to say. I picked up quick on the shaman ability that does damage while you move and guess what? People still die to it all the time.

     

    Tanks want to be hit. That is what they crave and what they are designed to do. And then people do it and complain. Funny, eh?

     

    Mauraders are a great class and like all melee dps require thought to play. In fact most of the classes except ranged dps (just a little bit, it is not like they really easy to play simply easier) do. People come in with a WoW mentality and then get raped. Personally, I get -really- surprised when a  Maurader attacks me, especially since I am a  shield Swordmaster. They have no right to complain if they lose because I chose to excel against melee damage, but neither do I if I lose because then I know they chose to counter me by exceling at killing tanks.

     

    And no, it is not rock-paper-scissors. That statement is made out of ignorance. The closer truth is in 1 v 1 you never know who will win unless you decide to spec against a particular playstyle. For example, I can kill casters despite them being my "weakness". And still I have lost to mauraders. It really depends on a lot, a dash of luck, player skill (reaction, timing, ect), and how you are speced (gear/mastery/renown talent). As far as melee dps classes go, if that is your thing maurader will not dissapoint and they are an interesting class that gets some cool armor. If I was Destruction I might be tempted to play one, actually.

     

    Here are some high level armor for each class, note how nice Mauraders look and their different mutations. (Note these are a bit old and the game does not have High-res textures in yet. This is expected to be enabled during Open Beta.)

    When I played my White Lion, the pet was bugged half the time. My DPS was still through the roof in RVR and scenarios. I played until 15 and at which I thought the pet was doing most of the damage. After I spec'd into the Hunter mastery and got Centuries of  War tactic (a 5 second dot that triggers 25% of attacks, so its basically a perma-DoT) PLUS my morale ability that does around 500+ (depending on RVR or scenarios then it is more) every minute, I was very very good in PVP and PVE.  At least top 3 in all scenarios for DPS even when pet would bug out, but pet doesn't bug out as much in scenarios as in open world at all.

     

    From what I've seen, the squid herder does far less damage than a White Lion. I haven't played the class or know any of the moves, but this is my speculation from watching them in scenarios and PVP. I know for a fact the engineer is NOT better at DPS, the Magus probably is. The only downfall is that all three of the classes you mentioned can be completely ranged, but a White Lion at melee range is very deadly. I was able to pull off many 1v1s in RVR areas, losing only to DoKs and sometimes Shamans. I completely destroyed tanks, all ranged DPS, melee DPS and Zealots.

     

    I have become a fanboi of this class, but in no way am I exaggerating what I have said. After spending 30+ hours on a level 15 character, all this info is accurate from my experience.

     

    No, you are exagerating a tad bit. The War Lion is powerful indeed and an amazing class but it does have quite a few weaknesses, like every class. From what I have seen in closed beta and the preview 1 vs 1 is not rock-paper-scissors, all archtypes seem to win and lose against all other archetypes, which I like.

    You will start to get annoyed at shield using tanks at higher levels as they just shield block your dps into the void and seperate you and your pet with knock back which hurts your dps. It annoys engineers just as much when they are tossed away from their turret. Likewise our tanks can do the same to maguses and squig herders.

     

    My point being that while War Lion is amazing they like every other class flare best in particular situations and otherwise are at the same level as any other class. In this game, thought and skill seem to matter more than your class ever will.

    They are a great class though and casters have a lot to fear from them, but they do fall commonly to more than just healers. In fact, shield wielding tanks should be your worst match up. Of course this does not bear much weight since it is just a -slight- advantage (not like WoW's paper meeting rock), so likely you just met horrible players.

    I wanted to be a human Knight tanking for great justice, but you know how that turned out. Oh well.

     

    Orcs for me actually, I usually dislike playing them but enjoy their company, same as dwarves. Warhammer Orcs however I have never liked...their way of speaking is flavorful though, it is pretty interesting.
