Buying TCG cards isn't gambling for the same reason buying a large fry with a Monopoly game piece from McDonald's isn't gambling. You pay for a product and you get said product. The product simply has a chance to be worth more than you paid via an in-game item or an HDTV or what-have-you.

Basically these forums have become a flame fest.. Most of the up-and-coming games are.. It seems like a bunch of really bored negative people who just cant find anything constructive to do..
I have been a member of this site for years.. It used to be full of constructive threads and usefull info.. But now I tend to glance at the forums of the game I am currently playing.. Think "Meh" and ignore most topics. DOnt get me wrong. If someone does not like a game and constructivly posts why its great.. But alot of thes threads arn't even worth my time.. Its sad.

I wouldn't say that is common for all games at all.
Surely the fact that there aren't many people in the lower tiers a sign that new people aren't joining?
On Red Eye Mountain, I'm seeing many more people in tier 1 than I have in a couple weeks. Could just be 40s rolling a new character but the few I've talked to are new players.

People use it to show a general trend and no reasonable person can says it does not provide useful information.
Note: This reply is not about whether or not WARs subs are increasing/decreasing or whatever, it's just about X-Fire.
X-fire provides information about a specific segment of a gaming population, not about the population as a whole. For example, which game sees more players according to X-fire, Counter-Strike 1.6 or Counter-Strike: Source? Source does by a wide margin. However, Valve's numbers from Steam, which tracks all players connected, show that 1.6 has twice as many players that Source does. Why is that? I believe it's because X-fire users are a specific segment of a population. Perhaps they are people that believe having more play time in a game means having a bigger ePeen. I don't know. What I do know is that X-fire is not providing any information that can be attributed to any population other than the population of X-fire users.
Lightsabers used to be attached to battery packs on the belt of the user and a cable would connect the pack to the hilt. Yeah. They used to be bigger and more archaic.
Aside from questing, what do you spend most of your time doing in-game?
