    • One Step Forward, Two Steps Back: A WAR Review
    • You will not be ever happy with any MMO you play because it will either have WoW faults or it will have fault of not having them. You moved from WoW to WAR because you were not satisfied yet you demand the same highly problematic features.

This is very classic MMO issue and is all your naive "review" is about.

      WAR (Warhammer Online)
    • Wotlk - released too early
    • More and raid wide buffs are good, it creates bigger gap between solo and group and yet does not create unnecessary hassle. It should have been in the game ages ago.

My issue is Blizzard is dead set on making WoW e-sport. And that is alien to classic MMO design with levels and tasks divided between classes. It means levelling and exploring will be even less important part that it is today. At the same time you will have to grind up for new sets asap whenever new seson starts or new instance opens to stay not just competitive but relevant to the game at all. The casual carrot will get shinier but harder to reach than ever, in a touted casual MMO no less. GuildWars or even something as otherworldy as EvE are much much better suited to being e-sport, almost anything is.

Will Blizzard succeed? Well as much as they did with arena resto druids, mage raid dps, retridin viability, 5man arena and many other examples. It could be worse but it i doubt it will get good enough.

    • What is the exp really bringing?
    • You ask for posives yet only list negatives.

It brings whole new levelling experience, where for a brief moment you get to explore, experiment and develop your character in a brisk pace.

It goes back to fantasy roots after the space squids and laser mummies intermezzo.

It brings more 10man where you can play your char to the full extent with a close knit group giving it casual friendly end game.

It brings new PvP that feels like it is done in a world not cell.

It does major changes to class and game mechanics, behind all the talents chitchat there are changes to regen, pushback, cc, buffs, class roles, mini-tactics (erm glyphs).

And it brings more of the same grind that people bash and whine about but keep demanding. They don't want to level they don't want easily accessible gear from past content, they don't want to explore, they want to push shadowbolt button over and over for a bigger purple number that none will care about in the end; blame yourself.

In the end it is like a new MMO on true and tested  (and for some overplayed) old engine.

    • The single most important thing WoW didn't do...
    • Kara is tutorial of sorts but it is more akin to heroic than to 25man raid in mechanics.

However, the old 40man Molten Core and Onyxia used to make great tutorial. You could take a few newbies there or try experimental specs, you could raid (very succesfully) with semi-casual yet competent guild. Even 15man UBRS was good for getting feet wet.

Unfortunately people whined that they cannot raid 40man; yet our guild took everyone who applied and still made top progress server wise - with the only catch you needed to understand our language to keep the community feel. The rest is management and motivation, even cathedrals are build by stupid people.

The TBC 25men instead of being more casual friendly went the way of Elitist Jerks (if you feel offended get a clue), which while getting somewhat corrected in 2.1 made casual rading much less approachable than even before.

    • Anyone else noticing a large increase of players?
    • Pay attention to the gaming experience of this "new" players. It is just alts.

Playing your main became wothless with expansion on the horizon, the fresh lvl 20 alt you meet now can easily surpass that epic loaded 70 main flexing his gear and titles in Shatt when you both have 80. Is losing  many  server "legends" (trust me i know) really good for the RPG part of MMO?

Btw Hinterlands is great (as in easy guided experience concentrated in a single hub) questing zone for Horde and people in the know... know. It was desert upon release and still is poor place for alliance. Oh and the local reputation never got fully implemented - and the corresponding alliance rep got even removed.
