I played VG for a month and the lag and low FPS killed it for me.....not to mention some of the bugs
Other game releases cause some temporary dips in the population. But overall, the population has been increasing steadily for quite some time now with a nice surge due to IoD.
I'll reiterate. Population on the PvE servers is good and getting better. It's quite noticeable and it's not just a recent increase, it's been gradually building pre-IoD as well. That said, yes, the world is very massive and you can definitely find yourself an area and be all alone in it. I think that is cool, makes the game feel big and gives me an opportunity to solo or harvest on my own if I want. But the adventuring, diplomacy and crafting hubs are always busy now. And APW is too busy now..... our guild used to have our Shard of APW to ourselves most of the time and now there are 2-3 other guilds in there too.
I do agree that the market is over-saturated with MMOs. I call many of the disposable MMOs. When friends or guildies leave VG, it's usually for a short period of time and they typically don't even cancel their accounts. When LotRO came out, some left to play that and returned in a couple months. When AoC came out, some left and played that for a couple months. When Warhammer came out, some left and played for a couple weeks. Some play EQ2 and VG on a regular basis. But it seems most of the time, Vanguard is the anchor game people always circle back to. The folks that left, AoC, LotRo and Warhammer will probably never return to those games.
So I get frustrated with the over-saturation of MMOs. I see my friends burning 50 bucks on a box that they play for 2 months. I have to believe that is the business model of some of the new 'disposable' MMOs. Make money off the box and quick expansions instead of the monthly fee.
The patcher is infamous for giving the wrong info on Server Status. The good news is, servers are almost never down unexpectedly. It's probably scheduled down-time which I think is normal for Wednesday mornings. All downtimes are announced on VGplayers.

One thing about this game is that hey , it has a low population ,so what. The only thing I see wrong is the people who need to have 10.000 people escort them through a game world.
The thing about VG that seperates its self from other games, is that you are the story. You are the one who makes up what happens to you in the world. The adventures of you , played by you. Specially on the PV server where the dynamic of the game really comes into play of being a a good person, or down right evil person.
If people don't step up to the play and dive into the game for themselves , the game will continue to dwindle, and this is one of the few mmorpgs, that you truly have to play it for yourself, or you just won't survive in Telon.
Free trial is available, the game itself is dirt cheap at retail outlets, there is no excuse, if you know this is the type of world you want to help ppopulate and become successful, it is all up to the community og he game to make it happen.
I found my love in LotrO, but I have a feeling there are people who will absolutely love this game , no matter how many people are playing, if only they would just give it a go !
Good points, except the only server that struggles with population is the PvP server. The others are pretty healthy and on the rise. Hopefully we'll be talking about adding a server at some point in the future.
The lower the level, the fast the repop. What level is the area you referenced again?
Which November expansion were you most excited about?
