Nice article. There was one other element regarding how WAR treats noobie players that deserves mentioning. At no time whatsoever will your low level character ever, EVER be forced to look like they're wearing a clown costume because they have lowbie gear.
There are -some- games that seem to think it's cute to punish noobie players by making them wear the stupidiest-looking gear. One could imagine the developers think this is 'incentive' to get their players to higher level but the fact is everyone is getting to higher level anyway! That's what happens to you play the game so why bother making players look moronic at low levels? WAR doesn't do that to players.
Sure a low level WAR character won't look kick-butt or impressive. They'll be rather plain in fact. But at no time will they be forced to look stupid because the only decent gear they can get is some puke green armor, lavender boots and a ship's wheel for a shield.
(Of course, -some- games even make higher level players look stupid unless they can waste hours raiding the armor sets just so the raid-monkeys can show off how great they are at spending hours farming and spamming buttons)
It's amusing to see how -some- games have put out expansions where the noobie players of their expansion races were actually given decent-looking gear until they had to leave their starter zones and go back to the color-blind clown costumes for the rest of the game.
WAR partly has GamesWorkshop's attention to their IP for that. Nobody in Warhammer looks like a clown, unless its an evil psycho chaos clown that eats children. And WAR partly has Mythic to thank for that, since they were bright enough to realize that there's no reason why a game should be any less enjoyable at a lower rank compared to a higher.
Well put. A great point that was not included.
