Why would Blizzard fundamentally change a game that has had sustained growth over the last four years?
Because the game is the product that drives the business, if a business doesnt adapt and diversify then it cannot sustain growth
The landscape is also littered with the remains of companies that diversified and moved away from their core business and failed.
I agree. Im not suggesting blizzard 'move away' from their core business. Nor am I suggesting they alter 'fundamental game mechanics' But diversifying often means 'adding' to your product range.
Since they are adding another 10 levels they have a perfect opportunity to diversify those ten levels, much like Lotro have done with MoM (Legendary items + challenge system)
But since I dont play WoW, (nothing to do with the game play.. I dont like the look and feel) I cant really comment, however, wasnt there supposed to be a new siege system for Wow? Kind of like the AoC Guild city sieges etc?
Seems to me that as soon as another MMO comes up with a great new idea Blizzard copy n paste n drape. I am actually suprised to hear people say its the same old same ole.
Maybe people havnt got to end game yeT?

I know you might think this doesnt apply to a product such as WoW but history is litterd with examples of products much bigger and much more successfull which proves its the natural order of things.
Microsoft is a perfect example of this, it failed to diversify for the internet and was left behind, now Google even Yahoo absoloutly PWN Microsofts search engines.
Even windows has been unable to sustain its growth, with Mac's portion of the market growing every year due to its diveristy.

Having different publishers in the USA and EU is just asking for trouble, I can't get my head around why Developers do this.
I think "dieing" is overstating things a tad though.
Because the law requires you to have offices located in the country / continent area in order to host a business that interacts with that region.
LOL - what a load of nonsense. What Law, and in which country is this law?
How does Eve online do it then?.. they have one server serving the entire world, does CCP have an office in every country in the world?... er... no ! CCP have an office in Iceland, the servers are in London and is open to anyone in the world.
The reason why MMO's get split is actually because they use cheap servers and connections and cant afford servers that can provide a good enough latency to people around the globe.
The "devs" in EU version arnt really devs, they are more like network engineers just making sure that the servers are maintained. It also means they avoid certain tax's and charge more in another country.
Splitting an MMO is just purly company polical thing driven by profit, which ultimatly means the EU customer suffers from poor customer service and slow reactions to game updates.
You do have to remember that most of the 'alternate' grinding functions available in Wow come after many years of expansions.
WAR is but a baby, and I feel thats the main reason why MMO's fail nowadays, people cant get past the 'release'
For example, I hated Lotro when it first came out, I was appaling by its 'lack' of..well.. everything.
Now, Lotro is awesome, but try convincing someone who play for a month after release.. they just dont want to know.
The same is going to be true for ANY new mmo.. I forever hear "ah but when Aion comes out.. when AoC comes out.. When Darkfall comes out... when.. [insert any mmo to come out here] its going to be completly amazing. What happens? people have over exagerated expections which will always disapoint.
This is why I never ever say "Im quitting" - people who "quit" mmo's in my eyes are idiots, years later these mmo's are amazing! - Try City of Heroes, Vanguard, Eve yes even DDO a year or 2 years later and they are fantastic games, let down only by their (now) small population.
Imagine if you met someone who said to you " Oh yes I tried using a computer about 15 years ago, it was completly awful and I will never by a home PC ever again!" - You would think such a person is an idiot because technology progresses, prices drop things get MUCH better..
For some odd reason people never realise this about an MMO.
Try WAR a year later.. I wonder what it will be like then.
Even so, its completly unnaceptable that the EU versio differs so completly from the US version.
Its something that really pisses me off about Lotro, although the version are pretty much the same, the support and dev interaction on the EU side is appaling.
They even have to send a token dev to the EU forums and do a 'Q&A' session.
Regardless of population (I dont actually mind, sometimes prefer a low-pop) the for-warning about the EU - US differences are very much appreciated.
Which console would you like to see MMOs released for?
