Best Hunting And Fishing Games To Play In 2021

Enjoy The Great Outdoors Without Ever Leaving The Comfort Of Your House
VR Games - Hunting & Fishing

Every sport under the sun is widely accepted in the gaming world – Madden, The Show, and Fifa all top the charts with each annual release, no matter how minuscule the updates are. Even lesser followed sports like tennis, racing, and even cricket have their followings, yet hunting and fishing games are overlooked by most of the gaming community. Sure, they aren’t as glamorous as the biggest sports games out there, but they deliver an experience as close to the actual sport as any genre out there. In honor of the genre, we’ve gathered up the best hunting and fishing games available to play right now. And since not everyone condones the killing of the majestic beasts depicted in realistic hunting games, we’ve included a couple of not-so-realistic hunting games as well.

the Hunter: Call of the Wild

  • Release Date: February 16, 2017
  • Developer: Expansive Worlds
  • Platform(s): PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Grab a gun. Follow the tracks. Line up the shot. Bring home a trophy buck. Hunt everything including birds, small game, deer, and even bears on a map that covers 25 square miles and multiple hunting reserves. DLC gives you even more terrain to cover and additional prey to track. And now, with the Bloodhound DLC, you do it all with your trusty hound by your side.

Ultimate Fishing Simulator

  • Release Date: May 29, 2020
  • Developer: Ultimate Games
  • Platform(s): PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

Fishing is almost as much about taking in the beauty of the outdoors as it is catching the big one. That aspect doesn’t always translate well in the digital world, but Ultimate Fishing Simulator does it as well as any game out there. You’ll be reeled in by the beautiful locales, and everyone from the beginner to the seasoned angler will find a difficulty setting to match their skill level. Just be sure to grab this one for PC, as it is superior to the console version in every way.

Monster Hunter World

  • Release Date: January 19, 2018
  • Developer: Capcom
  • Platform(s): PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

If realistic hunting isn’t your cup of tea, go ahead and try out Monster Hunter World. You won’t be mounting trophies on the wall in MHW, you’ll be wearing them as you forge new weapons and armor from the body parts you collect during your hunts. Just be careful, these giant dinosaur-like creatures don’t go down without a fight, and you can quickly become the prey instead of the hunter.

New Pokemon Snap!

  • Release Date: April 30, 2021
  • Developer: Bandai Namco
  • Platform(s): Nintendo Switch

Not every hunting game involves a gun. In Pokemon Snap, you’re out on safari, but instead of trying to hunt big game, you’re trying to catch all of your favorite Pokemon – on film. To get the best score possible you not only have to frame the perfect shot, but you also need to wait for the perfect pose. And if you’re really lucky, you’ll have another Pokemon photobomb your pic for an even higher score.

Fishing: North Atlantic

  • Release Date: October 16, 2020
  • Developer: Misc Games
  • Platform(s): PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

The sequel to 2018’s Fishing: Barents Sea, this time around you’ll be showcasing your commercial fishing talents off the shores of Nova Scotia. Start small, then put your career into high gear as you buy bigger ships and better gear. Good luck, captain!

Bonus Games

These next two games don’t have hunting or fishing, but they will help round out your wilderness adventures.

SnowRunner

  • Release Date: April 28, 2020
  • Developer: Saber Interactive
  • Platform(s): PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

SnowRunner, and its predecessor MudRunner, is by far the best off-road game you can find. There aren’t any rally tracks or Baja races here, just dirt, mud, and snow-covered terrain (and some roads too) that prove anything that allows speeds over 20 mph is boring. Even if you don’t want to play through all of the missions, there are plenty of off-road challenges to keep any 4X4 fanatic busy for hours.

The Climb 2

  • Release Date: March 4, 2021
  • Developer: Crytek
  • Platform(s): Oculus Quest and Quest 2

SnowRunner allows you to veer from the beaten path. The Climb 2 takes it one step further and has you climbing mountainsides as you hang on for dear life. A VR only game, The Climb 2 offers great views and a mild upper body workout as you make your way from handhold to handhold.
