Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Sony Music, and PlayStation Productions just announced a Ghost of Tsushima anime.
Crunchyroll has announced Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, an anime based on the iconic Ghost of Tsushima video game. Adapted from Sucker Punch Productions’ award-winning digital adventure, the new title will be produced in collaboration with Aniplex, the studio behind globally celebrated series such as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Solo Leveling, and Sword Art Online. Director Takanobu Mizuno will guide this from inception to home screens during 2027.
While the announcement doesn’t drop many details, We do know that the production team and animators are out to adapt both Ghost of Tsushima and the Legends cooperative multiplayer experience. Japanese folktales and mythology will play a central role in the upcoming series.
“Having already proven the immense quality and versatility of our gaming properties across multiple successful film and television projects, we couldn’t be more excited to announce our first ever anime adaptation,” said Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions. “Ghost of Tsushima’s rich, immersive world and its fantastical Legends mode based on Japanese mythology provide the perfect canvas for this project, and Aniplex is the perfect partner to translate Sucker Punch Productions’ hit video game into a stunning new anime series.”
Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima was initially released for the PlayStation 4 in July 2020. The game is set on the island of Tsushima during the Mongol invasion of Japan in the 13th century. Players follow the journey of samurai Jin Sakai as he transforms into the titular “Ghost” to fight back against the invaders. Mixing mythology, history, stealth, and action it received widespread acclaim for its stunning visuals, combat system, and immersive environments. The success of the game led to the release of a standalone expansion called “Ghost of Tsushima: Legends,” introducing cooperative multiplayer modes. Sequel, Ghost of Yotei, was revealed earlier this year to keep us all entertained while we wait for the Ghost of Tsushima anime.
