The Japanese gaming giant made a social media post confirming that we will see news on whatever becomes the new Nintendo Switch, later this year,
If you’re waiting for the follow on the Nintendo’s current generation of handheld hybrid, then we now know something is coming. While the Internet has been rife with rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2, we now have a somewhat firm commitment from team Mario. Furukawa, President of Nintendo, took to the official company twitter 9now X) account to confirm that fans can expect an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within the fiscal year.
This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct…

The news doesn’t mean that the format of this successor is confirmed. We might still get a Wii U 2 or a retro throwback. It’s highly unlikely, however. Talk on social forums and in more knowledgeable regions of the Internet suggest that the next bit of kit will keep a similar format with upgraded specifications, and a release date next year. The upcoming console follows on from a wildly successful format that dropped around the same time as the Gamespace launch. It’s carried Super Mario Odyssey into our front room and taken Ninjala on the go.
