Amazon Canceled The Lord of The Rings MMO

Amazon Game Studios Announces Lord of The Rings F2P MMO

In 2019 Amazon Game Studios announced a collaboration with Leyou Technologies Holdings Limited and Middle-earth Enterprises to develop and publish a free-to-play MMO game based on The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien.

The developer did not reveal many details of the project in the works, besides the events of the game taking place hundreds of years before those of the movie trilogy and the plans to bring the project to PC and consoles.

Sadly, it seems those plans are not going to pan out. According to a recent article at Bloomberg by the one and only Jason Schreier, Amazon has canceled the development of the game following Tencent’s acquisition of Leyou Technologies Holdings Ltd and the dispute due to the contract negotiations.

An Amazon spokesperson contacted the site to confirm the information:

“We have been unable to secure terms to proceed with this title at this time. We love the Lord of the Rings IP, and are disappointed that we won’t be bringing this game to customers”.
