Alice developer, American McGee, has finally decided to start working on the third entry for Alice. Last December 6th a post went live on Alice: Madness Return’s Steam news section. The post detailed American McGee’s intention of submitting a proposal to EA in hopes of gaining rights to independently develop the third installment.
As for information on the actual game, American McGee has stated that the third game will be a prequel to the first two games: American McGee’s Alice and Alice: Madness Returns, which will be called: Alice Asylum. The story is planned to tackle the life of Alice before the death of her family and the total corruption of Wonderland, but nothing else is revealed at this point. The post also included a couple of concept art for Alice Asylum. One of them being a concept of the Cheshire cat, which depicts it with fur and the words “Before fire” above its head.
While no additional information was stated on American McGee’s personal blog, there was a call for crowdfunding for the game. American McGee’s blog promises early access to concept art, community input and direct conversations with his team if you support the game through Patreon.
The Patreon page itself states levels of donations, where you can get different benefits depending on how much you donate. The donations range from $2 to $15 and will net you benefits like: patron exclusive concept art, video or game credits and even an early developmental build of the game.
For those who aren’t familiar with the game, American McGee’s Alice is a dark, macabre game inspired by Lewis Caroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The story puts you in the shoes of a young girl who recently lost her entire family to a house fire and begins to suffer from a condition known as survivor guilt. Alice’s mental health quickly deteriorates and she becomes unable to tell reality from fantasy.
The original game was released in October 6, 2000 and has garnered positive reviews for being imaginative and spellbinding. Unfortunately, despite being considered a cult classic, American McGee’s Alice went largely unknown to a majority of gamers. In June 2011 the sequel, Alice: Madness Returns, was released.
The sequel was well accepted and reached a wider audience on 3 major platforms: The PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the PC. Since then, a lot of people have been asking if there are any plans on creating a third game. 6 years later, they finally have an answer.
