Apex Legends Gets PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X Upgrade Today

Apex Legends

Apex Legends players with next-gen consoles can finally go native as the arena shooter launches improved visuals on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S today.

Up until now, anybody gearing up to take on all comers in Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends might not have been able to feel the full effect of their next generation upgrade. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S owners have spent the last year or more playing with visuals that don’t exactly make full use of their purchase or any associated accessories. Today, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S owners can download an updated version of the Apex client that should make things seem a whole lot more impressive. In a social media post, Respawn announced that the PS5 and Xbox Series X update will add 4K output, improved LOD distances, HDR support, and more. The full breakdown is below, including the limited improvement that Xbox Series S owners are likely to get.

PS5 & Xbox Series X

4K Output

Higher Resolution Shadow Maps

Increased LOD Distance

PS5, Xbox Series X, & Xbox Series S

HDR

60Hz Gameplay

This news drops alongside the release of the Warriors Collection event and the reintroduction of the Control game mode. It means anybody gearing up for two weeks of 9 vs 9 action can expect a glorious looking return to this arena, at least with the right hardware at your back.

The new updates do not make use of every element of these new consoles. 120Hz gameplay is not on the cards yet and some of the more advanced haptic controller support doesn’t appear to be listed. However, we will see and feel the results of this a little later today. For full details on how to download the newest version of Apex legends, check out the social media updates over on the official twitter page.
