Arcane, a brand new animated series is based on League of Legends is coming to Netflix this Fall.
Netflix and Riot have just announced that the global phenomenon that is League of Legends will come to a different sort of screen this fall with an animated event series called Arcane. The news, dropping alongside an action-packed teaser trailer, marks Riot Game’s first foray into television, and will throw two of the MOBA’s most iconic characters into a tale that will follow their origins, and crossed paths. Set in the utopian region of Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun, Arcane is likely to delve deep into the background of these two cities, as well as the character that inhabits them.
A Familiar Meta
The trailer might not give us exact detail, but it’s fairly certain that the upcoming show will feature both Jinx and Vi, who players already know as adversaries. There are also a number of unanswered questions and some individuals we don’t recognize, so even those of you steeped in League’s lore might have to guess how events will unfold. Netflix already caught us all off guard with Dragon’s Blood, and now fans of the other biggest Multiplayer Online Battle Arena get to see their own IP come to life. Shauna Spenley, Global President of Entertainment at Riot Games, noted that:
“Arcane was created as a love letter to our players and fans, who have been asking us for more cinematic experiences that dive deeper into the worlds and champions in League of Legends. Netflix, with its incredible global brand and shared goal of delivering premium, high-quality content, is the perfect partner to help us bring Arcane to players around the globe.”
With all that said, we’ll be sitting down to watch these iconic characters take to the television when Arcane arrives on Netflix this fall. Until then, why not take a look at our thoughts on the recent DOTA anime, or prepare to jump into Castlevania again.
