We’re just about a month away from the launch of EA’s and Ascendant Studios‘ Immortals of Aveum. As the release date approaches, developers are keen to unveil some of the story along with gameplay features players can expect. The team behind the game has a new trailer that showcases a great deal of the game including Jak, the protagonist, and how magic functions.
Magic
Magic is divided into three types: Blue force magic, Red chaos magic, and Green life magic. Each one functions differently and most Magni can only become expert at one. However, Magni like Jak become Triarchs, or an expert in all three. Players will gain access to sigils, items, and spells that enhance each type of magic. Players can opt to become a specialist in one or become a generalist.
Sigils
Sigils allow players to control magic. As expected, sigils appear that enhance one type of magic in particular.
- Red Sigils – These are best suited for close-quarters combat and explosive attacks
- Blue Sigils – Bolt-based spells that reach out over a long range to do precision damage
- Green Sigils – Rapid fire armaments that are ideal for mobile combat
Furies
“Furies are a step above your sigils in terms of power and provide an impactful form of offense. These spells can be devastating, but using them requires Fury Mana, a limited (but replenishable) resource that fuels these attacks.” However, they require a special type of mana that can drop from chests or from enemies. Players can also tailor their skills to restore the resource on their own.
Other types of magic enhancement
- Augments help players interact with the world
- Control Spells allow players to slow enemies and objects
- Dominion Spells are the player’s ultimate attack.
