Ashes of Creation developer, Intrepid Studios, just dropped a dev stream and gave us all a look at how to build a UI.
Ashes of Creation might be full of fanciful enemies, magic classes, and adventure but its no use jumping into action without any control. Beyond the hotbar most MMO players bash to bring bosses to their knees, a great UI puts everything a n adventurer needs at their fingertips. From damage numbers to mini maps, and untidy inventory. That last part might just be me. For their February Development Update, Intrepid Studios revealed a little more about how the team behind Ashes of Creation build those tools that make jumping into action seamless.
Lead Ui Designer Colby Marchi walked viewers through the game’s interface with its population. This includes elements like the game’s style guide that create consistency across the game’s lore text, tooltips, and more. Not only do es this work ensure that the game is consistent, but it helps establish the brand identity. You wouldn’t confuse Guild Wars 2 with WoW. Aspects like iconography, inventory, character creation, items, and more are central to this and they are all worth a look, especially if you’re currently looking to play and give feedback on pre-launch versions of the game. Players eager to focus on how their population looks, rather than the UI will want to take a look at the latest character art update. Margaret Krohn and Steven Sharif demonstrated a bunch of new weapons. This includes a ton of Cyclops weapons. Players also got a look at new crafted weapons, dropped armor sets, including the River Stalker, and more.
With topics covering looking cool, handling well, and even exploration the 90 minutes of updates are worth dipping into if you’re waiting for Ashes of Creation.
