Fans of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla have lots to celebrate today with the release of the first-ever Assassin’s Creed Crossover Story that sees two worlds collide. Kassandra and Eivor will have a “meeting of the minds” or more likely a meeting of the blades. Ubisoft announced the crossover DLC yesterday and it is available today, Tuesday, December 14th as a free download for all Odyssey and Valhalla owners.
In Odyssey, the “Those Who Are Treasured” storyline will debut with Kassandra fighting boredom after 1,000 years of life. She is resting (literally) on her laurels drinking wine and gazing at the stars. However, when some old friends come to visit, she will set off on an adventure to hunt down a specific Isu artifact that has world-changing potential.
In Valhalla, the story is “A Fateful Encounter” where you guessed it: Kassandra and Eivor meet and their explosive tempers and egos come to the forefront. The two will duke it out before settling in to chat about “things”.
Associate Creative Director Clemence Nogrix wrote, “We had to keep in mind that Kassandra is over 1,300 years older. She has traveled the world and seen the rise and fall of the roman empire. We wanted to make sure that players felt she had learned and seen a lot, but that she was able to stay the same at heart. It was challenging in a way that we were attentive to each hero’s personality, but we made sure they both showed what they were made of on the battlefield. The team did an amazing job with that encounter scene.”
In addition to this first-ever Crossover Story, Ubisoft announced the massive Dawn of Ragnarok expansion that will be heading out the gate in Valhalla in 2022. According to the dev team, it features a whopping 35 hours of story content.
Developed by Ubisoft Sofia (the studio behind Assassin’s Creed Rogue and Assassin’s Creed Origins – The Curse of the Pharaohs), Dawn of Ragnarök focuses entirely on Odin (aka Havi), and is set after the events of the Asgard and Jotunheim arcs found in the main campaign. This new adventure puts the one-eyed god on a journey to save their son, Baldr, held captive by the fire giant Surtr in the dwarven realm of Svartalfheim – a mythical new world about one-third the size of England. Under occupation from the fiery realm of Muspelheim (as well as icy Jotunheim), Svartalfheim has become a hostile, lava-filled landscape patrolled by flame-wielding enemies, some of whom can do things like revive their fallen comrades. To survive, Odin will need to find hidden Shelters across the world, and seek help from the dwarves who’ve taken refuge in them.
