Balan Wonderland, the magical new platformer from Square Enix, is going to get a free demo ahead of launch, and it lands on 28 January.

Back in September 2020, Square Enix and Sonic the Hedgehog creators Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima confirmed that their latest creation, Balan Wonderland, was set to pitch tent across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Pc via Steam in March 2021. Now, we will get an early hands on with the new adventure when Balan Wonderland releases a free demo on 28 January. Coming around two months ahead of launch, the demo will be available across all platforms and unlocks at midnight. This opportunity to try before you buy should give us about 2 hours of Balan Wonderland gameplay across several environments, in either local co-op mode or single player mode.

Three areas of the upcoming title are included in the demo. World 1 – The Man Who Rages Against the Storm is a bright and breezy farmland that will challenge players to make use of several costumes to get by, featuring the Jumping Jack and Dainty Dragon costumes. World 4 – The Boy Who Would be One with the Wind and World 6 – The Girl and the Kitten will also feature, alongside the Gear Prince, Soaring Sheep, Pumpkin Puncher, and Aero Combat costumes. As you might have guessed, this wondrous action-platformer game relies heavily on its costume mechanic, allowing players access to extra abilities and feats of fortitude as they explore. However, each of the new worlds only unlocks a limited playable area, so don’t expect to get free reign.

When the Balan theatre whos up in town, Leo Craig and Emma Cole follow the theatre’s mischievous maestro into a world full of imagination. From here players must guide the two heroes through the world, and a turning point in their own lives and return from Balan Wonderland. You can find out more about this unique quest or the free Balan Wonderland demo over at the official website now.
