Baldur’s Gate 3 is Getting a Paladin Class

Baldur’s Gate 3 is getting a Paladin class with the full reveal of Patch 9 for this Early Access RPG.

Larian Studios, the studio behind Divinity Original Sin, hosted a Holy Knight stream yesterday, revealing the latest updates coming in Patch 9 of Early Access. Fans of the franchise and adventurers dabbling in the latest entry to this series of highly regarded RPGs will be able to pick and play a brand new class when this new update loads. In addition to the new class, the stream revealed even more, including a bunch of subclasses, a Level 5 level cap, a revamped Reactions system, powerful spells, and flying skill.

Airing last night and featuring The Game Awards’’ host Geoff Keighley, Holy Knight was an enlightening run down of everything we can expect from the latest update to Baldur’s Gate 3. You can check out the full show over on the official channels, but the highlight has to be the Paladin class.

New Stuff

While there is plenty of time between now and the full launch, players can expect this new addition to be somewhat game changing. As you might expect, the core of this class is to stand by the character’s oath and push back the encroaching evil in the world. Whether they’ve sworn an Oath of Devotion, an Oath of the Ancients, or an Oath of another kind, their ultimate goal is to uphold justice and righteousness above all else. In something of a twist, the new subclasses for this path introduce the Oathbreaker. This concept explores the result of a wayward paladin and what effect this has on their gameplay. We’re not going to spoil it all, but its one of the more interesting concepts to break out of the traditional RPG systems we see most days.

While we might all be eager to go smite some enemies, the Paladin isn’t the end of this update. Path 9 will also drop in a huge couple of changes. The Fly spell is exactly what it sounds like, a new way to explore the world when out of combat. Another massive moment is the increased level cap. The Level 5 limit marks a significant step in the progression of quests, skills, and overall gameplay. Traditionally this moment unlocks a giant power boost for all classes and opens up 3rd-level spells like Fireball to those with spellcasting abilities. This will significantly impact gameplay, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see some tweaking once the population marches up to max level.

Patch 9 and the paladin Class are both live to try out now. Pick up Baldur’s Gate 3 in Early Access via Steam for £49.99 or the local equivalent. Alternatively, you could pre order the Collector’s Edition and get your very own Mindflayer. Find out more on the official Baldur’s Gate 3 website.
