Baldur’s Gates 3 - Check Out the Best Mods

Larian’s Baldur’s Gates 3 continues winning hearts and minds of the community. And, as such things go, the community eagerly pays it back by creating fanart, videos, cosplays and the various modifications that enhance, fix, change or add something to the game.

The list below contains some of the most popular fan-created mods for Baldur’s Gate 3 from Nexusmods. Note that before diving in and installing any particular mod, you should check out the requirements and installation instructions for the best way to proceed. Sometimes the features or mods you might want require an optional file or a separate mod to work without errors.

Without further ado, gather your party and venture forth!

Camp Event Notifications

Have you noticed your companions behaving erratically by either referencing events that never happened or never really warming up to you despite all your steps? Or, perhaps, you have run into a scene on Youtube that you never got to see in your own game?

Chances are you are not taking enough Long Rests and are missing on some companion interactions. Camp Event Notifications mod aims to fix that by adding a visual notification to tell the player when they should long rest due to camp night events and dialogues waiting to play out.

No more going to Youtube to see that Gale Weave scene, experience it in your own game by hitting all the needed Camp Events to make it happen.

Bags Bags Bags

Loot ALL THE THINGS! If that is not your strategy, you are missing out. But to accommodate for how much of a murderhobo and an arcane broom you are, don’t forget to grab the Bags Bags Bags mod. It adds 21 new containers (many featuring autostack) to help you organize your inventory. These containers are available for purchase from vendors in all three acts – check mod description for details.

Check out installation instructions, notes and recommended mods for the best possible experience.

Carry Weight Increased – Up To Over 9000

Since you are already looting everything and stuffing it into your new fancy bags from the mod up above… why not increase your carry weight accordingly? Get ready for your extensive loot hoarding with plenty of options to bolster your carry weight limit. Ranges from a minor x1.5 increase all the way up to the quite legendary x9000!

WASD Character Movement

With the sheer beauty of Faerun as it is shown in Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s a shame we can’t zoom in and play as a third-person action RPG… or so it was before this mod. WASD Character Movement allows players to explore Faerûn in an immersive third-person POV and use WASD to move your heroes.

Here’s the list of features provided by the mod:

  • Directly move your character with the WASD keys (or others). Character movement is bound to the same keys as Camera movement
  • Toggle between Character movement and Camera movement, by default with Caps Lock. It automatically toggles on combat start and end.
  • Improved mouselook: when rotating, the cursor is hidden and stays in place and Interact is disabled; Rotate key + Leftclick = Forward.
  • Allows to bind Camera Rotate to Rightclick without conflicting with Context Menu and Cancel Action
  • Auto-move forward, by default with Shift+W
  • Toggle between sprinting and walking, by default with Insert
  • Supports both Vulkan and DX11
  • Supports multiplayer, even if the other players don’t have it
  • Supports both Steam and GOG
  • Does not affect Controller mode, Splitscreen, Savegames or Achievements
  • Hotkeys and settings can be configured. Features can be disabled. Edit BG3WASD.toml with a text editor. Press F11 to hotreload the config in-game.

Achievement Enabler

If you still aim to hunt down the achievements despite modding your game, this modification is a must have. It allows for Steam & GOG users to continue on their achievement-collecting path. Note that the mod requires Native Mod Loader – check out the installation instructions and gather your party before venturing forth.

ImprovedUI

Do you find that the default UI does not work for you for one reason or another? Enter ImprovedUI, a mod that changes existing UI to enhance the current modding scene by removing intrusive in-game warning and enhancing character creation options. Also provides optional files that replace UI elements based on player feedback

Here are some of the player features mentioned by the creator:

  • Prevents annoying story error message box appearing when using mods;
  • Unlocks edit appearance option for all Origin characters in Character Creation;
  • Switches “Show all items” (highlighting all interactables, default left ALT key/right stick) from requiring a held input to an on/off switch. Requires an optional file. (Credit: Violet-Vibes)

Keyboard-only tweaks that also require an optional file:

  • Hides the bottom-left buttons when in dialogue with companions and NPCs where Attack/Trade are not relevant. Can still be accessed by placing your mouse in the bottom-left area. This cleans up the UI when experiencing intimate scenes. (Credit: Wesslan)
  • Replaces existing Minimap with smaller version (75% zoom, takes up less space on screen) or no Minimap (leaving the relevant buttons).

5e Spells

This mod adds and modifies a number of unimplemented spells into the game, some of which require Norbyte’s Script Extender. 6th to 9th level spells currently unavailable.

Customizer’s Compendium – NPC Options Unlocker

Do you like to spend hours creating your character and then dive into transmog to feed your vain streak? Then this mod is for you (and me, I am the same way). Customizer’s Compendium expands your character creation experience with more choices, including previous NPC-only options.

Check out the description and the screenshots provided by the creator to see some of the options in action!

Everybody Dyes Unlimited Dyeing

Now that you got your pretty Tav or Durge thanks to the mod above, it’s time to take care of their clothing. What better way than to dye it to match your aesthetic? This mod makes sure that dyes are no longer consumed on use. According to the creator, it lets you “become the colour coordinated murder hobos of the Sword Coast”.

Daughter of Lolth – Minthara – Good Recruitment

In their infinite wisdom, Larian created a perfect companion but made sure that only a small fraction of players will get to experience her story (after it got fixed). No more! Using the mod, you will be able to recruit Minthara while still siding with the Tieflings without having to use magic rings. This mod will make it so defeating her whether at the Goblin Camp or during the Raid does not kill her, and that she returns for you to find at Moonrise.

Keep Halsin alive. Party with some Tiefs. Come home at the end of the night to Drow DommyMommy

Honorable Mentions: Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Fixer, BG3ModManager & Script Extender

Chances are, as you are going through the installation instructions for the mods above, you will note that you need one, two or all of the mods mentioned above. While on their own they do no change your game, they’re still required to make sure the mods are installed correctly and run smoothly.
