Recently, Larian Studios’ Creative Director Swen was joined by Geoff Keighley, Chris Perkins and Adam Smith on the Panel From Hell in a deep dive of what can be expected from Baldur’s Gate III Early Access. The team also revealed the game’s system requirements.
The developers anticipate that the game will spend at least one year in Early Access and note that players looking for polished experience are probably best off waiting until the version 1.0 releases. Act 1 will be the main content for EA, featuring around 25 hours of content, including creating your character and choosing one of the six classes with the number of races yet to be determined. It will also feature five origin characters that can be recruited but not played. The five launch characters are: Astarion (Elf/Vampire Rogue), Gale (Human Wizard), Lae’zel (Githyanki Warrior), Shadowheart (Half-Elf Cleric), Wyll (Human Warlock).
Act 2 & 3 are currently work in progress.
Baldur’s Gate 3 will be entering Early Access on September 30.
Here are a few numbers that will emphasize the depth of Baldur’s Gate 3 in comparison to Divinity: Original Sin 2:
- Number of combat encounters: 22 in DOS2 EA vs. 80 in BG3 EA
- Number of English dialogue lines: 17,600 in DOS2 EA vs. 45,980 in BG3 EA
- Number of characters: 142 in DOS2 EA vs. 596 in BG3 EA
- Number of spells/actions: 69 in DOS2 EA vs. 146 in BG3 EA
