The BioWare Blog has been updated with a new post offering a look back at 2021. Authored by General Manager Gary McKay, the post spends most of its time discussing the complexities of working from home, the need for learning new tools for communications and development, and how the team is looking out for one another. He also gives the BW team a victory lap for its successful release of Mass Effect Legendary Edition in early 2021.
Dragon Age 4 and Mass Effect 5 fans hoping to get something of substance from the letter will be disappointed. McKay offers a scant few sentences to cover both games that include nothing that isn’t already known.
And of course, we remain hard at work on the next iterations of Dragon Age and Mass Effect. I’m seeing some incredible work from both teams. If you’re curious about Mass Effect, I’d encourage you to take a look at the poster we released on N7 Day. If you look closely, there are a handful of hidden treats; by my count, there are at least five surprises, all of which point to an amazing future in the Mass Effect universe. As for Dragon Age, we have a veteran group of talented developers working on the next iteration of the franchise. We are focused on a single-player experience that is built on choices that matter.
In fact, McKay provides an update on the forthcoming expansion to its 10-year-old MMORPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic. The Legacy of the Sith expansion is due out in February.
Lastly, the letter promises that the studio is hard at work on rebuilding its reputation with its fans and communities after several missteps in recent years including, according to some, Mass Effect Andromeda and the much-maligned Anthem. The goal is to “create worlds of adventure, conflict, and companionship that inspire you to become the hero of your story”.
