After earning a “mostly negative” review core on Steam after a lackluster launch, the Blade Runner Enhanced Edition has grown a little larger as Nightdive Studios has added Blade Runner Classic to the download package. This is, in effect, a mea culpa on the part of the development team behind the buggy mess that the Enhanced Edition is at the moment. By adding the Classic edition to the package, players can revisit a beloved classic without all the issues that currently plague the Enhanced Edition including bugs, crashes, visual issues, and more.
Daniel G. from Nightdive wrote, “The original Blade Runner, titled Blade Runner Classic, is now available to play with the Enhanced Edition. The free update will be downloaded automatically and when you start Blade Runner through Steam, you’ll be given a choice of launching the Enhanced Edition, or the Classic version. There is also an option to play Blade Runner with some restored content that was left unused from the original game.”
It is more than likely that the Enhanced Edition will be patched over time and will address some of the issues currently causing so many negative feelings in the community. In the meantime, it was a good gesture to add the Classic edition. Time will tell how it goes.
For those unwilling to forgive and forget, there is another Blade Runner game in the works, but there is little to nothing known about it or any potential release information.
