Developer Blizzard Entertainment just broke some exciting news: BlizzCon returns to Anaheim in September 2026. In the reveal blog post, the team shared what BlizzCon means to them, and how far the celebration has come since the very first event in 2005.
BlizzCon has always been an opportunity to celebrate worlds created by Blizzard and share new exciting announcements. Players will likely see what the developers have been up to when it comes to World of Warcraft: Midnight, Diablo IV, Overwatch 2 and Hearthstone. However, fans don’t lose heart when it comes to the two IPs that haven’t been in the spotlight for a long time: StarCraft and Heroes of the Storm.
With the announcement trailer featuring a literal eye of the storm and familiar memorable quotes from various Blizzard franchises (mostly WarCraft, of course), the hope has never been brighter. Check out the comments to the YouTube trailer up above to see how many people are hoping that Blizzard decides to bring its MOBA back from oblivion.
For those who have forgotten or never delved much into Heroes of the Storm: the title is Blizzard’s entry into MOBA genre, decidedly easier and more welcoming to newcomers than League of Legend or DOTA. Players are able to choose from a roster of heroes coming from various titles of the company, including but not limited to Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo, with some unique Nexus characters such as Orphea.
Back in 2022, Blizzard announced that Heroes of the Storm is being moved to the maintenance mode, affirming that the game has no more active development. The servers remained operational with the seasonal rolls and hero rotations. Following patches primarily focused on client sustainability and bug fixing, with balance updates coming as needed.
What about you? Are you excited for BlizzCon and what it possibly means?
