Bandai Namco Online has announced the cancellation of MMORPG Blue Protocol before it launches in the west.
Anmazon’s upcoming anime inspired MMORPG will not come to global screens ever. Bandai Namco Online announced that the publisher behind just about every Gundam game I can think of is shuttering Blue Protocol in Japan and cancelling the global launch of this adventure. A statement on the global Blue Protocol website confirmed that Japanese Blue Protocol Servers will shut down in January 2025. In their own statement announcing the end of service, Bandai Namco Online said, “We have enjoyed a strong relationship with Amazon Games throughout the development of BLUE PROTOCOL, and both of our teams are disappointed that we will not be able to deliver the game to players around the world.”
Blue Protocol first arrived in Japan back in June 2023. The world of Regnas received plenty of interest from Otaku and MMO communities globally, and Amazon Games was set to add this to the likes of New World and Lost Ark. What seemed like an easy win for the Twitch owner showed signs of turbulence when complaints about content updates and end game started to surface. While things have been quiet of late, Bandai’s decision to abandon the entire game is something of a surprise, even by the admission of the Japanese game studio.
For those that participated in the closed tests, you’ll be able to reminisce about your experiences for a little longer. The global website remains online.
