Can 2022 Avoid AAA Disappointment?

2022

It’s safe to say that 2022 is set to be a huge year for newer releases, the next-generation consoles from both Sony and Microsoft have had a slow ramp-up but the big exclusives will also look to arrive shortly. Other platforms like mobile will also look to continue delivering on the widespread successes found across many genres particularly as favorites like games of chance grow in popularity amongst the ever-changing audience as players check the current Pinnacle VIP code for big bonuses on their favorite games. Where mobile does little to disappoint on these offers, however, the biggest platforms may have a tougher time avoiding AAA disappointment with a roster of games already promised to deliver big.

Some of the biggest set to be released include the latest from the Souls-series developers in Elden Ring which is already poised to be one of the biggest games of the year despite releasing so early on, a sequel to the popular PlayStation 4 title of Horizon as the new title of Call of the Mountain looks to also deliver on the newest for PlayStation VR with the PSVR2 launch, and the Xbox will welcome another S.T.A.L.K.E.R title which had already found controversy with the NFT announcement followed by the cancellation soon after.

Whilst most games have been received well over the past two years or so, there hasn’t been a large list of really impactful and dedicated titles and some of those that were highly anticipated, Cyberpunk 2077 and Battlefield 2042 being the most noticeable examples, falling very short of the expectations and bar that had been set very high – with bigger AAA titles to hit in 2022, hopes are that studios don’t follow the same path and are able to deliver on the expectations that gamers have set.

2022 - 1The disappointment is also fed from the ever-rising cost of pre-ordering and the growing collections available for the same games – digital deluxe, ultimate packages, and complete collectors editions make the poor games seem even worse when players are dropping hundreds of dollars on a disappointing experience it only makes those. Some upcoming titles have already experienced small delays which whilst initially frustrating, dedicating more time to smoothing the edges can only be a good thing in the long run.

A new year provides many new opportunities for success and excitement of the biggest games yet to be released and the hope will be for AAA titles to avoid any disappointing performances, but with so many big titles to come this year, it would be more surprising for at least one not to fall short.
