After months of nebulous speculation about whether or not multiplayer will be included in Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has finally confirmed that it is indeed coming. However, this all comes with the caveat that it will not be available at launch. “Multiplayer’s in the works,” CDPR wrote in a tweet.
The priority is, according to developers, to get the single-player portion of the game completed before putting more of the team to work on multiplayer. According to Twitter, players will be recruited once the multiplayer component is more content complete and ready for testing. The basic roadmap is to get the single-player game delivered in April, to launch four DLC, and “once we’re done,” get started on the multiplayer component. Given that, the release of multiplayer could be towards the end of 2020 or even later if you’re a pessimist.
There are several available positions on the multiplayer development team too including Design Director and Senior Gameplay Programmer. This suggests that this element of the game is in very, very early production.
1/2 Until now, the only thing we said about multi was that it was in R&D. As we’re getting closer to launching ‘single player’ Cyberpunk 2077 in Apr. 2020, we’d like to confirm that multiplayer’s in the works! 2/2 The plan for now is to deliver Cyberpunk 2077 in April, then follow up with DLCs (free!) and single player content, and — once we’re done — invite you for some multiplayer action.

How the heck did this fly under my radar until today?
I don’t like this queasiness in my belly when games are projected in different modes before even launching but still launch staggered anyway….
Do devs deserve the money? Of course! Do players deserve being treated like humans & not credit cards? of course! Decisions like this just divide communities & the right thing to do would be to launch them at the same time.
