Wales Interactive has just announced a new adventure for the holiday season. Delve into the heart of horror with Maid of Sker.
Coming from a range of talent that produced Don’t Knock Twice, SOMA, and The Bunker, Maid of Sker invites players to take a trip back to the olde world and joins the family Sker for a holiday driven by torture, slavery, piracy, and supernatural terror. Players picking up Maid of Sker will find themselves way back in the heart of Wales during 1898. Travelling to a remote hotel, players are bode welcome by a tale inspired by the folk story of Elisabeth Williams – the tragic tale of a Welsh woman in the 1800s losing her life after her father locks her away in her room to die of heartbreak.
This first-person experience puts our unfortunate protagonist right at the heart of a dystopian lodge, brimming with ways to die. The sound based AI means that a forced exit from this vacation is not an option. To survive one must use their time wisely, navigate the grounds of the hotel, and outwit your monstrous hosts. The unique 3D sound system is accompanied by a chilling re-imagining of famous Welsh hymns Calon Lân (A Pure Heart), Suo-Gân (Welsh Lullaby) and Ar Hyd Y Nos (All Through the Night), from the spine-chilling voice of Tia Kalmaru. Coupled with some really quite striking visuals, my only hope is that it doesn’t work with VR or I’m in for some seriously screwed up dreams.
If you’re as taken by the announcement trailer, which you can find above, as I was then you’ll be able to book into the Hotel Sker on PC via Steam, Xbox One, and Playstation 4 in June 2020. Nintendo Switch owners can check if the breakfast is any better in October this year. To keep an eye open for availability, check out the official website now for more details.
